Why did God murder children for making fun of a bald guy?
RE: Why did God murder children for making fun of a bald guy?
I don't think you religious types should hang around these forums too long. Us asshole atheists are rubbing off on all of you too much.

The truth is the common property of all humanity. The timeless is indifferent to questions of historical priority. In saying that Jesus was 'conceited', you reveal a highly restricted understanding of human potential, and project your own vanities onto God.

These two premises are one. To know God, is to know that God is good. To know goodness is to know God. Know yourself, and you will know both goodness and God.

There is nothing outside of God with which to disprove his existence. There is no human experience other than God. Even your rejection of God is an act of deep religiosity occurring within a religious universe.

(March 5, 2014 at 7:24 am)max-greece Wrote: It doesn't matter how horrific the stories in the Bible - they will explain them away.

There is no need to explain away the 'horrific stories' of the Old Testament, and this for two reasons. First, there is no conflict between the perfection of God's justice -- which is what really horrifies you -- and his boundless love for humanity. Love and justice are compatible and complementary. The second reason: what seems 'horrific' to the squeamish sensibilities of effeminate moderners, is not the measuring rod of what is Real. The spilling of blood is just as much a piece of Eternity, as the laughter of children. The atheist does not accept Reality for what it is -- a world of joy and suffering, heaven and earth, good and evil.

The atheist does not see outside the prison walls of ideology. Seeing only the physical universe, he sees merely the boundaries of his own mind.

You are speaking to a former atheist.

Because your mind is fixated on fragmentary and illusory things. Use the whole of your intelligence, and you will see God. For intelligence coincides in its essential nature with the knowledge of Eternity.

Merely saying that Christianity is true is not going to change anyone's mind, and constantly repeating yourself makes you look like a damn fool. You know what we like around these here parts? Demonstrable evidence. Please demonstrate that, first, there is a god, and after that you need to show that it is the Christian god. All this other stuff such as scripture and conversion can come afterwards.

The present moment of Eternity is all the proof you will ever need. Such 'sober certainty of waking bliss', as you have never dreamed.

Still waiting on that demonstrable evidence. Saying that "The present moment of eternity is all the proof you will ever need" is nonsensical, and is only proof of your ability to string together words in order to create the inane. Besides, we don't desire proof; we desire evidence.

You already have the truth within yourself. It has just been covered by a sheet of ice.

In other words: "I can form no image or concept of 'eternity'. Thererore, it must be nonsensical." Your folly is to think you can run a measuring tape around Reality, and pour Infinity into your skull. This is only a reflection of your own vanity. To say that eternity is nonsensical, is to say that the your own existence is without meaning.

Just because you are determined to disagree with the truth, does not mean it reflects your own meaninglessness.

Eternity is not vague, it is too clear for words; our words can only be symbolically oriented to the naked vision of Reality. It is not pseudo-intellectual, as it has no pretensions of intellectualism. It is simply the wisdom in the nature of things; the truth that flows through everything, and flows also through man, though he may shut his ears to it. No man can take credit for the truth.

God's moral pronouncements are the enunciations of the laws of equilibrium. If you deviate from equilibrium, there are corrective consequences. It is an essentially causal operation. If you let go of a ball in mid air, it will fall.

You asshat, Uri. We know what eternity is. We can fathom it. We can discuss it. We can postulate as to what it might look like. Phrases such as "moment of eternity" or "pour eternity into your skull" make no sense, even at the metaphorical level. What about you? Can you fathom what reality looks like?

Goodness is a concept, it has no physical existence, and so this entire line of argument is utterly vapid. Dodgy

None of that means anything. Listen, it's a simple question: do god's moral pronouncements have some practical reasoning behind them, that affect human beings, or not?

Uri,

That was the most long winded way of saying you agree with me I have ever seen.

You are totally convinced you are right.
No evidence will convince you otherwise.
You will explain away anything that contradicts your point of view.

Therefore - any debate with you is pointless.

Thanks.
