Seriously.... I thought huggy made some excellent posts. He soberly and calmly met all opposition on the subject without flinging back the insults that were slung at him. I kudosed those posts where I thought he made great points.

I didn't take any notice of the bickering between you and him. I couldn't even give you an opinion on who is right and who is wrong. I'm that disinterested.

If you want to carry on having a go at me for indicating my appreciation of a point well made, then that will have to be. I thought we were getting on well before you suddenly saw me as an enemy for liking huggys posts.

Marcionites were pesco-vegetarians who embraced pacifism. Women held high leadership roles, at least prominently enough that critics of Marcionites complained about the role women were playing in the movement. They did not believe the god of Jesus was the god of the Jews. They believed the god of the Jews was a creator god that ruled based on judgment and violence, which Marcion argued by appealing to violent texts in the Hebrew scriptures. Marcion saw the god of Jesus as an entirely new being, a higher god who provided escape from the judgment of this world. Most importantly, Marcionites had something no other Christians had: a canon of their own scriptures.

The thing that gets me is your cherry-picking and tunnel vision on things regarding belief, evidence, and reality. If I snap at you for cockblocking a point I make in an argument regarding a car manufacturer, which is indeed a bit different from the one concerning a supposed god's responsibility but not so far removed that we aren't talking about it, then don't drag out the idea that our entire online relationship has fallen to shambles because of your own issues in dealing with this victim mentality of yours. I love how the murderous, bloodthirsty bears are female as well. Females really can't do anything good in the Bible, can they?

I've heard Christians explain before that 42 is a large number of people, and so God sent the bears to protect the man. So...people are murdered and raped every day, and have been since time began, and yet we see no angry, mauling bears to protect these people?

May I also add, in the passage, the man does not ask for help from God in a frightened way - he curses them, which implies to me he did this in anger, not fear.

Also, how is it even possible that the bears caught ALL 42 of these kids? If two bears came out of nowhere and began to attack your group, wouldn't you run for safety?

The bears would have to be pretty bloody quick to kill 21 each before any of them had time to flee in terror. And we all know fear makes you run fast.

I know it sounds like I'm nitpicking but how can anyone possibly defend or explain this passage?
