So much bad

PHILADELPHIA — A couple who believes in faith-healing were sentenced Wednesday to 3½ to 7 years in prison in the death of a second child who never saw a doctor despite being stricken with pneumonia.
Herbert and Catherine Schaible defied a court order to get medical care for their children after their 2-year-old son, Kent, died in 2009. Instead, they tried to comfort and pray over 8-month-old Brandon last year as he, too, died of treatable pneumonia.
''My religious beliefs are that you should pray, and not have to use medicine. But because it is against the law, then whatever sentence you give me, I will accept,'' Catherine Schaible, 44, told the judge. She added that her beliefs have since changed.

Oh and the real kicker. This one took my breath away.
Quote: Their pastor, Nelson Clark, blamed Kent's death on a ''spiritual lack'' in the parents' lives, and insisted they would never seek medical care, even if another child was dying. "

She said her beliefs changed, but into what? When stuff like this happens, it only ends up making a nutcase more confident in their beliefs.

I feel sorry for her.
The "pastor" is surely the villain on this piece. Hope his dick rots off. Alice, see to it please.

Oh, there are words. But they pale in significance to jail time... which should have been done the first time before these two shitwits could kill another kid.

This horseshit about religious beliefs points out another aspect of Arizona's recently vetoed SB 1062. Religious beliefs are not "sacred." In fact, in cases such as the one above they are downright stupid and dangerous.

Gimme some words min. I'm all pissed off about this, use your eloquent gift for expressive profanity to frame it for me so I can attempt to process the level of arrogant stupidity.
Please don't leave out the pastor.

I just can't believe that any parents could do this not once, but twice!
Sorry, but by law it should be mandatory for parents to take minors to see doctors if they're ill, whatever the parents' religious beliefs or personal views of medicine.
Once you're recognised as an adult you can feel free to not see a doctor. It's your choice.

This is the sentence for the SECOND fucking time they killed a child in exactly the same way they killed the first?
These people should never be allowed unsupervised access to children. Especially their own.

I think they shouldn't be allowed near children either. I remember the actor behind Pee Wee Herman was forbidden from being near children for being caught masturbating at an XXX theater. I don't know why, unless they were showing kids in the movie. That was his punishment, at the very least, and this couple is only getting up to seven years in prison?
I'd book them for first degree murder, criminal neglect, and child torture. If they don't get life, I'd say they aren't allowed to have kids, or be within like 500 feet from children. I know we have religious freedom here in the USA, but some things should still be prevented, regardless of beliefs.

Notice that the woman 'accepts' the court's sentence, not because what she did was wrong, but "because it is against the law." Without a doubt, they would have done this again. And they would have plenty of chances, seeing as they have SEVEN other children.
They were sentenced to 10 years probation for the first death. They could conceivably be out of prison and petitioning for custody of those remaining children in less than four years. And they don't think they did anything wrong.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
