Atheist Group Forces Grieving Mother To Remove Roadside Cross

There may actually be a practical use for having something along the road to indicate that people were in crashes there. Maybe not a religious symbol, but a sign or something.

Not that we don't already have signs warning of sharp turns and stuff.

We have standardized road symbols for that. No need to appropriate it with your religious symbol. You could just be advertising, after all.

Most crashes are not the road's fault. Some idiot is texting, talking, shaving or getting a blow job.

Eventually the person who puts it up moves on. Then the memorial starts to tatter, fall apart, and become an eyesore. Cross or no cross people shouldn't add to the litter in the streets.

I have no problem with such memorials, provided that they are erected by individuals not using public funds, aren't traffic hazards and are removed if they become an unmaintained eyesore.

If anything, they serve as practical reminders to pedestrians of dangerous sections of road. There's a dangerous blind curve on the back way to my country property - for some reason people insist on waking on the dangerous blind inside of the curve. Every so often, theres a new memorial representing another fatality.

There's a road I used to live on that was appropriately named winding Road. Eventually they put some sharp turn signs on there to help prevent crashes, but there are no turns that are too sharp if you're going the speed limit. It was this one family of drunks tearing down the road way too fast that kept doing it. It's definitely not always the road's fault.

I hate seeing all these little roadside memorials to people's momentary lapse of concentration or bad judgment which resulted in a traffic fatality. The thing that annoys me is had they survived, they'd be thanking God for a miracle.

You want to commemorate someone's existence, celebrate their life, not their death.

Jewish people must be really good drivers, because you never see any stars of David along side the roads.

If it's a six-foot-tall cross on a road, just turn it into a street sign.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

I forgot to add this, but in the report I read prior to writing this, the family of the son did remove it, but was quoted saying, "They said they have to take that one down, But they didn't say anything about putting another one up." This kind of bullshit pisses me off. Another smart ass also said, "It's so petty and sad that they have to complain over removing a cross," she said. "It's his personal preference that he was Christian. What's wrong with having a cross up?" You can't possibly admit that if one these

were to be placed on public property, you would stand for it. Every christian organization would fight for it to be removed. But wait -- what's wrong with having a pentagram up? It's that person's personal preference. This is what 'murica is today. Hypocritical christians who shove their opinions down everyone's throat, but when we won't stand for it, they cry foul and say we're stripping them of their rights.
