Germany : Court rules to remove crucifix in School

Germany : Court rules to remove crucifix in School
A crucifix has to be removed after 2 people who went to a public school in Bavaria compalined about their " freedom of religion" .

The court ruling is interesting :

Everybody has the right of " negative freedom of religion" - meaning that no one has to be exposed to religiious symbols in a püblic building.

Bavaria is the last of the 16 Federal States in Germany where is was legal to show religious symbols - like a crucifix , religious clothing - . All other States had this outlawed since a decade or so ago.

I like the term " Negative freedom of religion "  !

It's great move. Schools should be places of learning not superstition.
The first revolt is against the supreme tyranny of theology, of the phantom of God. As long as we have a master in heaven, we will be slaves on earth.

The crucifix is a horrible decoration/piece of jewelry. Unless they are going to put up picture of the rack and pots of boiling oil...I am all for getting rid of them. And this is from someone who was stuck in Catholic schools and never got used to the dead guy on the cross images.

RE: Germany : Court rules to remove crucifix in School
Its a generally different approach to "freedom" in Germany than in the US. In the US its rather "freedom to", in Germany "freedom from". What has been shown above exemplifies this.
It should also be noted that this crucifix was not anywhere but in the very entrance of the school and in 1:1 scale, iow 150cm tall. The plaintiffs argued that, due to mandatory school participation (no homeschooling bs here), schoolkids could not avoid being confronted with this religious symbol (aka: "it was shoved into our faces").

This is noteworthy since guvnor Söder ordered crucifixes to be placed in every public office in Bavaria* (an order approved by court), arguing that everybody could "evade" them (and thus rather taking the US approach to freedom).

* in the entrance area, well visible to everybody

Oh, come on - the image of a man still showing the wounds of torture and nailed to a tree. What’s  upsetting about that?

People these days are so sensitive.*
