Atheist Group Forces Grieving Mother To Remove Roadside Cross

I can't view the video from work, but I read the story elsewhere. The crosses have been up for at least two years. Plain markers would have done the same job without making it a church/state issue; and if it had been an explicitly non-Christian or non-Jewish symbol, like a Wiccan star; it would have been off the property a long time ago. It isn't persecution to not make exceptions to the law because you're a Christian and very sad. No one wants to intrude on a mother's grief, but it isn't a license to break the law as long as you want.

I'm surprised not many people discussed him instead.
Same sex divorce should be outlawed. #StopTheGays
Putting crosses on the side of the road where someone died is, I've heard, a practice that is common in Mexico. As more Mexicans immigrate to the US it's becoming more common here. In Texas I see them all the time.
They never bother me. I think more about the life lost than about the religious implications.
Everything I needed to know about life I learned on Dagobah.

I'm not a fan of crosses memorializing car accidents on roadways, but not due to their religious connotations. I just find it an odd thing to do. But don't be offended by this guy. Who cares what he thinks of Atheists?
I think the crosses are fine. They serve as both a memorial and more importantly, a warning. Although used as a religious symbol people should remember what a cross also is in a secular sense, an instrument of death used by the Romans. To me another symbol isn't quite as shocking or obvious as a cross. Maybe it causes a drunk driver to pull over and sleep it off.

Maybe. All we can know for sure is that some people made the same mistake. We naturally don't hear about the people who didn't die, or who decided to sleep it off, or who drove more carefully. There's no stat for that. ![]() (March 10, 2014 at 10:39 pm)thesummerqueen Wrote:(March 10, 2014 at 8:42 pm)CapnAwesome Wrote: Maybe it causes a drunk driver to pull over and sleep it off. Or it could be they were driving down the road, saw a cross on the side of the road, said "Hey what's that?" and ran off the road because their head was turned trying to read the name on the little memorial.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.
