This seems like a funny story. Parents trapped in a bedroom because the cat freaked out and went hostile. Immediately I was thinking why don't they just grab a blanket off the bed, or out of the closet, and throw it on the cat? I don't care if it's 22 lbs. It's a cat. Pin it to the floor with a blanket and chuck it outside the house. If it has a history of violence, and you insist on keeping it, it needs to be an outside animal.
My sister told me how they had to get rid of their german shepherd because it was being too protective of the baby and bit her because she left the house with her daughter without taking the dog. There was no mention of having to confine herself to the room and call animal control. Granted every case is not the same, and maybe I'm underestimating what a cat can do to a person. I just can't imagine needing to call 911 because a small pet I have is out of control.
