I imagine that sheep or goat fucking was a bigger problem among herders but homosexuality was a normal occurrence among the Greeks. This bullshit has all the earmarks of a little propaganda trying to make the Greeks appear to be on the outs with 'god.' Since the Greeks did not arrive in the region until c 332 BC this gives us a terminus a quo for the earliest advent of this nonsense.
Fucking livestock was also prohibited in the same passage. Homosexuals were to be stoned. Both the human and the animal were to be burnt alive. The ancient Israelites seemed to be aware of both men and women having sex with animals, but not aware of lesbian relations between women.

It's in one of Paul's letters (1 or 2 Cor?) that there is a warning that (practising) homosexuals will not inherit the kingdom of heaven, but it's in a long list of sins including avarice. Since the sentence is followed by "Such were some of you" it's clear that he thinks there is forgiveness for those who repent. As I mentioned in another thread, some liberal Christians like Bishop Spong think that Paul was repressing homosexual urges in himself.

Probably not. :/

Just another disgraceful lie of the Bible.

The whole Book of Revelation features anything but a loving god. It's full of bile and hate against Judea's oppressors. For those who don't see it as divine revelation, it reads like an LSD addled revenge fantasy.

Quote:doing homosexual acts are forbidden, according to the bible, thus shall be thrown in the lake of fire, you can try to go against gods rule all you want but in the end its all the same.look at how allot of people are dressing know, its all devil stuff.live in youre programmed fantasy world, but the allmighty is coming soon.
The bolded statement has probably been said, in some form or other, by many people over the past 2,000 years. God's definition of "soon" is just as open to interpretation as the rest of the Bible, it seems.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

One would think that such a wise and omniscient god would realize his target audience are humans that have a life expectancy of half a century. Even if "soon" has a different relative meaning to a god, an essential part of good writing is knowing who the reader is and being able to use terms the reader would understand and as they would understand them.

hmm, i see.

I'm not so sure. I've heard the case made that this verse refers to having sex with another man in the same bed you share with your wife.

I think that it's more likely that the men that wrote the bible just didn't mind lesbians, so they didn't bother mentioning it.

By the time of the New Testament Paul is aware of them and disapproves. Speaking of the pagans he says, "Even the women pervert the natural use of their sex by unnatural acts. In the same way the men give up natural sexual relations with women and burn with passion for each other." Romans 1
Possibly the Greeks and Romans were more open about such things than the Jews. I think the guys who wrote the Old Testament were just clueless schmucks who didn't pay any attention to what was going on in the women's quarters.

So no three ways with two men and a woman, but having multiple wives is fine? As a straight guy, I'm cool with that. Tongue
