I honestly believe for many people it is a metabolism thing whereby they do not know how to adjust, and that is how the weight gets out of control. When one is younger, most people have high metabolisms which allow them to do the minimal amount of worrying about their weight while being able to eat like pigs and drink alcohol in excess. When my metabolism began to slow down in my thirties, I honestly thought I could remain in front of my computer all the time and not have to worry about working out. That is how my weight got out of control. My weight has been going up and down the these past few years, and I am currently in the process of losing weight again. My stomach is getting smaller and I am almost at the desired weight I need to be.
It also helps that I actively ran cross-country and track when I was younger and throughout my life, because that is honestly the only way I can lose weight. I tried the gym experience, but I only lost a couple of pounds during the months I was working out. The reason for that is because gym workouts tend to turn fat into muscle, which was not making me lose weight whatsoever, while jogging actually does shed the pounds.
Everyone is different, of course. Some people do have glandular problems which makes their weight get out of control, though I admit that for most people it is is either pure laziness or the inability to know what to do when their metabolisms change.
Also, diet does play a role, though not for everyone. It is stated that one must always eat three square meals a day, but even while working out eating that much is not going to help shed the pounds. One must eat healthier, but also less than what is supposedly recommended by the so-called experts. One cannot eat more calories than one loses during workout, and eating three meals a day tends to add up to more calories than one loses during daily workouts. I have been eating one small meal a day while drinking lots of water while also trying to jog daily, and that is how I have been losing weight.
Time management can also be a problem, especially when one works too much to have the time to workout.
Such odd advice. If you are working out daily and being physically active then one small meal a day won't cut it. I eat several times a day a few small meals and snacks. You can technically lose the weight by creating a deficit which is difficult,, or eat throughout the day and only eat what your RMR requires, while also working out. Honestly...i burn about 500 calories in the workout but I do mostly strength training
My body wouldn't function with less than 500 cals a day. I eat between 1200 and 1500 and I'm closer to that 6 pack I've wanted than I have ever been before. Yes muscle weighs more than fat but it looks a shit load better than fat too. People are so concerned with what the scale says that they lose sight of everything else and starve themselves until they look sick. I've never seen anyone workout so much they look sick...maybe ripped though. It's actually a bad idea to work out on a completely empty stomach which it sounds like you have most of the time. Plus a majority of people don't like healthy food. The best stuff to eat is what the earth gives you in raw form. Minus meat, cook your damn meat.

How exactly that was worked out I don't know, and I'd assume it'd have to be room temperature water since it would take more energy, or less, depending on the exact starting temperature.
On a related subject, I often find people don't know the definition of Black Ice.
The calorie is the approximate amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of one gram of water by one degree Celsius.
The Calorie in dietary terms is a kilocalorie. So, yes, that one is the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of one kilogram of water by one degree Celsius.
But the starting temperature makes no difference except through a phase change, ice ->water or water-> steam.
Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

I know that the opening post is a joke (that too many took seriously) but in fact there is a correlation between obesity and low intelligence. http://www.examiner.com/article/obesity-...y-suggests

They all struggle with their weight, and some are obsessive about it, to the point where the obsession is worse than the weight itself.
I am an anomaly in my family. I have a hard time putting on weight. My boobs are so small, there's not really a viable bra size for them. Beer makes up a very good majority of my caloric intake. Well, if your diet is seriously deficient - eg ~600 calories per day from food, then it doesn't matter if you get 4,000 calories/day from sugar your body won't be able to build muscle or fat, plus you'll almost certainly develop osteoporosis. This is in fact why alcoholics can drink so much without gaining weight. I'd certainly suggest you speak to your doctor if I were you, or at the very least start increasing calories from food.

Hahahahahahahaha!
... Wait... you're expecting me to take advice from the guy who says there are no naturally thin people? I've been this way my whole life, even before I drank beer, and I get regular checkups. I'd say try again, but it's not like your advice means anything.

Well, I'm not the one who made a claim to "naturally thin" people, that was thesummerqueen, and my point was that it is up to her to define the term because the idea that thin people can't gain weight is a myth, obviously.
If a person eats a diet very high in fibre they can be seen to eat a lot all day long every day and they'll never gain weight because they're calorie deficient and probably nutrient deficient.
If you're anything like my brother - he'll be 28 in a few weeks, he's my height 5'11 and he weighs about 60kg maybe 65kg at present (he's not looking too bad at the moment), but he usually weighs about 55kg. He most certainly is not "naturally thin" IMHO, he obviously has bad normal eating habits, he smokes instead of eating and drinks a lot of beer probably also instead of eating a proper meal. He also drinks a number of coffees in the morning - that's about everything I know about his diet. He used to have Maccas for lunch every day.
His diets have always been high sugar, sugar is empty energy - it adds a lot of calories, but no nutrients like vitamins, calcium, protein, etc. Importantly there's no way for your body to convert sugar alone to fat, I'll try to explain this a bit better, here's a link.
To make fat your body needs to store triglycerides, and if it doesn't have enough it will simply use all the ones it can. Obviously if someone wants to lose weight, they're needing to use the deficiency to burn the triglycerides stored in fat. Importantly low sugar diets mean that not much triglycerides can be formed and thus your body will produce the required glucose. However very low fat diets - malnourished diets also have a slightly different effect by depriving the body of the other building block, that of the fatty acids, and that your body does not produce on its own. Thus if you do not have enough fatty acids in your diet it will make no difference how much sugar you eat you cannot get fat from it - and my brother is certainly proof of that.
In the real world this would mean that a diet of healthy foods that amount to around 600 calories/day or less from food and 2,000+/day from sugars in tea, coffee, alcohol, coke, etc wouldn't contain enough fatty acids to cause weight gain. Simple science.
