If you think about the christian god.. you realize christians are retarded. How is it possible to hurt children that way?... but again, it's retarded. He doesn't save the children, he doesn't heal the sick..HE isn't anything. He is an idea.. a really shitty one.

If there is a deity why should it make everything nice for you? I think the story of Job illustrates this point very nicely. When Job lost his family and servants the intent was to see how he would react. Maybe those people were simply sophisticated androids and expendable. So although Job thought that he lost fellow humans he was in reality the only human (aka the person with a "soul") in the story. The intent was always to see what he would do when he experienced some major disasters. The other characters were just mirages.

Now consider how someone might react when they experience major disasters involving their loved ones. Do they go off the deep end or do they hold it together? The Bible contains a number of stories that ask that question. But is the question dependent upon the existence of a deity? I don't think so.

As humans we will all experience tragedies. Some will make us angry and vengeful. Some might drive us into severe episodes of depression. We have the luxury of learning from other peoples' experiences. Children will suffer and die horrible deaths. It's the nature of life. So what can the average bystander do to alleviate that? Some people got off their butts and invented medicines and medical procedures to cure the things that cold be cured. Others became part of the system to apprehend and punish wrongdoers who commit deliberate harmful acts.

The bottom line is that we are all "gods" who have the power to contribute to make the world a better place. A person has to be stupid to think that an imaginary invisible celestial deity plays any part in human affairs.

Why won't God heal amputees?

Why should He, what requirement in the universe says that He should give an amputee a limb back. God healed the amputees or they would have died from their injuries.

GC
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Why doesn't God give me what he promised in Scripture. I pray for grace to do His will. I need His guidance or I'm fucked!

If you are to acknowledge God, then you have to also acknowledge that Satan exists. If Satan exists then you have the reason why the world is in the state its in.

Ephesians 6:12(KJV)
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

As you can see, God is not in control of this world, Because of the original sin, it fell into the possession of Satan. Which is why he was able to tempt Jesus (who is God) by offering him all the kingdoms of the world if he would worship him. That being said, the only protection we have is in Christ.

Proverbs 18:10(KJV)
10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

Now if you would notice, first passage mentions the word "principalities" which is the domain of a "prince" which is basically a high ranking Demon.

This is illustrated in the book of Daniel, when Daniel fasted and prayed for 3 weeks and received no answer, until one day an angel appeared and explained how he had been held up by the "prince" of Persia for 21 days

Daniel 10 (KJV)
11 And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.
12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.
13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

Notice he also refers to Michael as a prince also, except in his case he is a high ranking Angel.

As the angel was leaving he had this to say

20 Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come.

Basically he's saying he has fight his way in and out of enemy lines.

The point is we are surrounded by evil and it's only going to get worse. A way of escape has been provided (as Paul explains by putting on the armor of God) just don't blame God if you choose not to take advantage of it.

Either he's a dick or he doesn't exist. Fuck god in either case.

A man with wisdom said: God is not in control. He is in charge.
There is a difference.
Exactly how much control would you want God to take from you?

Lucifer was in Heaven- a state of complete perfection, yet he decided to go for control.
Didn't work out too good for him.
God has given a charge to mankind. We blow it all the time.
Look around, how is "evolution" working out for us?

When someone buys a machine of any complexity, the buyer usually expects a manual to come with it.
It is not the designer's fault if it gets discarded, or bogus manuals come out later.

Bible results only come from biblical principles.
Not only do these function in a spiritual basis, we are opposed on all sides- including those of our own belief system, and the principalities and powers of the air.
Sometimes I think it is a wonder any of us ever get results given the minefield we operate in.

I am never satisfied with the status at hand, but press onward.

All the suffering will end.

I am ever encouraged because the grand finale will also come.

Satan and his minions are not permanent fixtures here.

I have to say GC, this is a very disturbing attitude, there. It's almost as if you can't understand basic morally good traits like empathy or charity.

I choose to believe that you aren't a sociopath though, and instead I just think that you don't have a satisfying answer to Hobie's question and so became intractable to avoid just saying so.

There's no shame in "I don't know," though! You don't have to make yourself look like some alien with a completely different, incomprehensible view of morality to avoid saying it! Smile

Hmm, let's see... Thinking

Well, it helps us cure diseases, develop smart engineering solutions, domesticates our animals (pets, work animals and farm animals), allows us to develop better crops to feed the world, gives us an understanding of the limitations of our bodies and how they can be improved, gives us unparalleled insight into the natural world...

Oh! And gives us all creationists to laugh at!

I'd say it's working out far better than your god ever has, bud.

I'm so sick and tired of hearing about the original sin! God knew it was going to happen, even though he gave them a "choice", yet still decided to go ahead and create humans, because all those angels worshipping him wasn't enough. That to me sounds like one sick and sadistic bastard. Therefore, I don't believe in this dumb story. It's just too stupid to take seriously.
