Mid-life crises DO exist
March 23, 2014 at 1:49 pm
Quote:Social economists say the life cycle of human happiness is U-shaped. We're really happy when we're young, and happy again when we're old. That low point in the middle? We call it a mid-life crisis.
Researchers at the University of Melbourne in Australia tracked the happiness levels of thousands of people in Australia, Britain and Germany over multiple decades. They found people in all three countries were unhappiest between the ages of 40 and 42.

I am only thirty-four, and I am pretty sure I have already experienced my mid-life crisis.

Do people think they don't happen? You get past your prime, and probably can't live life like you used to, so you may need a big change. Dramatic changes tend to stress people out, and you have your mid life crisis.

A lot of people go through a mid-life crisis when one of their parents die. I've read of a number of men that have totally freaked out, gotten divorced, chased college aged girls, all kinds of shit.
Both my parents are still alive. I better keep them healthy.

I knew a dude who lived happy for 80 years and died instantly.

I have to wonder if, when people were lucky to live to 30, on average, if the mid life crisis occurred around the age of 15?

The idea that our ancestors routinely died young has no basis in scientific fact. Average lifespan has increased for the most part simply because of decreased infant mortality.
Hell, Socrates died in his 70's back in 400 BC and the cause of death was execution, not old age.
