It's called original sin. We are rotten to the bone because the first human attempt according to biblical account to doubt his authorithy (our first attempt at science really) with our god-given free will ended in a huge payback for all humanity still not completed. Luckily he sent his son, who basically is just himself, to save us from his own payback, meanwhile acting dumb about that salvation being something out of our own pocket.

You mean stupid people literally sit down to read it? As opposed to not actually reading and literally throwing it out the window? lol

You'd better sit down, if you read it standing up you will be exhausted by the time you finished all the begats.

Why would you? A bible is always handy if you have a wobbly table or have that empty space in the bookcase.

Yep that's right. The Adam and Eve story was basically establishing that fact. It's the basis of Christianity, and most religions.
Now I don't think animals are bad, but what humans do it curb our animal instincts. We don't rape, steal, kill, when we feel like it, for example. It's not just a religious stance.

Then it has been an abject failure in any case.
Yeah. It's an aim.
After 1,500 years I'd say its time to try something else!

It seems I am not alone, the vast majority of christians worldwide to some extent adheres to the literal interpretation.

Not a religious stance? "Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves." Numbers 31:16-18
In modern day, http://www.holysmoke.org/icr-pri.htm should speak for itself. The religious criminals rape, steal, and kill.
