Organised religion welcomes any and all new ideas which agree with dogma. To be fair; although science welcomes new ideas, the same cannot be said of all scientists. How do you know what to interpret literally and what to interpret metaphorically? Just interpret the unpleasant parts metaphorically? Because that would kind of be a cop-out would it not? EvF
Anyway, there is no analogon in science of using metaphore as an explanation. Metaphore simply lacks substance. If religion retreats further into its metaphorical hell hole it leaves the nitty-gritty part of explaining and repairing the world to science.
