Regarding entitlements - I think this is related to locus of control. Depression seems to be positvely correlated with external locus of control, and negatively correlated with internal locus of control. A person with external locus of control thinks that outside factors are the major determinants of success, while a person with internal locus of control thinks success and failure result from personal ability and effort. Reading DP's post about the real estate market crash made me wonder if locus of control is related to depression.

Kick Depression's Ass!

My pre-depression mentality was quite proactive. I remember when I came out of school I went on quite a self-help/philosophy-of-success kick, from Steven Covey to Anthony Robbins. I've had plenty of stressful times and tight spots before but I always fell back on my own outlook that "God gave me reason and an indomitable spirit and the rest is up to me". It always worked well for me before. I do agree that most of my depression stems from a perception of being chewed up by larger forces that even my best efforts couldn't overcome. A sense of helplessness had set in. My road to recovery has involved finding ways to pick myself up and make the best of my situation.

I've fallen into major depression these last two days. I was so depressed I walked into a parked car and was a zombie at work, unable to concentrate and fucking up orders.
Just wanna sleep all the time. The manic phase will return. |
