If you're looking for a gotcha to use in an argument with a Catholic, don't bother - they know full well that their traditions and catechism have extra-biblical components. Papal infallibility. On questions of Catholic doctrine, what the Pope says goes. IMO, not only does that *allow* for extra- and contra-biblical doctrine, it is in and of itself contra-biblical ("The only way to the father is through me."). There's far, far less emphasis on the damn bible in the catholic faith than protestant. They're more about church traditions (which ultimately, are whatever the pope says they are). Clearly the pope's decision is less about bestowing a benefit on atheists than it is about clearing up cognitive dissonance for Catholics. So it isn't really about us.
To play along though, I wouldn't mind looking over a prospectus so long as attendance isn't mandatory. I'd need to know who else is going, how good a table I can get and what pleasures I might still be able to satisfy post death. Explain to me just exactly what "heaven" is proven to be - along with the testable and verifiable proof At what point do we accept that the whole story is nonsense Did the pope also mention he expects you to donate money to his church - even if you do not believe? You and I right now have an equal opportunity to go to heaven. An unbleiver who pursues living a moral and good life can be led to God who is the source of all good. In other words, in doing good they can find Jesus, the source of their salvation, but they still must eventually believe. No change in doctrine there, but something that has not always been clearly emphasized or understood by many christians.
Cool story, bro.
