20 Arguments for God's existence?

RE: 20 Arguments for God's existence?
Quote:5. The Design Argument

This is still being thrown about?

Quote:9. The Argument from Miracles

This is an argument?

Quote:10. The Argument from Consciousness

Brain.

Quote:14. The Moral Argument

No god necessary here...

Quote:18. The Argument from Religious Experience

Subjective.

Quote:20. Pascal's Wager

Wasted time.

Quote:But no one can reasonably doubt that attention to these arguments has its place in any book on apologetics.

There shouldn't even be a book on apologetics. If there was a god, as described by Christians or many of the other faiths out there, then such a being wouldn't even need people to apologize for him not getting his message to all his people.

Quote:Not all the arguments are equally demonstrative.

"Demonstrative" isn't a word I would use in conjunction with this list. Nor should anyone else.

If god ever showed up, they could reduce those lists to a single item. Maybe god likes lists? Or futility?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

It's a shame we live in the modern age where we have to rely upon all this philoso-babble to convince the heathen trash. Back in the old days, there was an abundance of overt displays of Yahweh's power, one's that couldn't be written off as coincidence or natural occurrence.

Consider what Jesus promised:
Jesus Wrote:Mark 16:17-18 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

How odd that there are 2 billion Christians (counting all the phony ones) and yet not one can cast a Cure Light Wounds spell. I'm going to have to pray on that...

It seems, from reading the Bible, that people were able to perform miracles in the name of Jesus back in the day. The Book of Acts of the Apostles details the following:
  • Intervention by angels (Acts 5:19, 12:7-10, 12:23)
  • Magical instant fluency in foreign languages (Acts 2:4, 10:46, 19:7)
  • Curing the sick or handicapped (Acts 3:2-7, 5:15-16, 9:33-34, 14:8-10, 28:8-9)
  • Peter casts an Earthquake Spell (I think that's a sixth level cleric spell) (Acts: 4:31)
  • Holy Ghost powered lie detection and miraculous execution (Acts 5:3-10)
  • Casting out demons (Acts: 8:7, 10:38, 16:18)
  • Bright lights, booming voice from the sky (Acts 9:3-4, 26:13)
  • Peter casts a Raise Dead spell (5th level cleric spell) (Acts 9:36-40)
  • Paul casts a Blindness Spell (3rd level cleric spell) (Acts: 13:11)
  • Holy artificats like Paul's Handkerchiefs (Acts 19:11)
  • Paul casts a raise dead spell (Acts 20:12)

So why can't people of faith work this divine magic today? If only we could just perform a healing ritual under medical peer review, we could provide evidence that would convince every single godless heathen on this forum. I'm going to have to pray on that...

So until the Holy Spirit gets his mojo working again, I guess we'll just have to rely on variations on this philoso-babble theme:

Step 1: Blah blah blah
Step 2: Blah blah blah
Step 3: Therefore, Jesus

Praise the Sweet Name of Jesus anyway.

#9 is the one I have the biggest issue with. When I was in my transition stage from a Christian to an Atheist I looked long and hard for evidence of miracles and found nothing.

I looked everywhere I could think of on the Internet. I asked many many Christians if they witnessed any miracles. What I found out was most of them consider common explainable things to be miracles. One of them told me that his bff had a heart attack and was in bad shape. He rubbed some holy oil on him and in a few days the doctors said he was going to make it. He really believes God did a miracle. I asked him if his buddy had his hand cut off would rubbing oil on the nub make it grow back. He was literally speechless for a minute but finally answered yes if he had enough faith. I replied by asking him why this has never happened. Why is there nobody out of the billions of people on the earth that has enough faith to do an outwardly visible miracle?

I have another one. My son fell asleep at the wheel late at night and wrecked his car. He didn't get hurt but the car was fucked. Someone told me that God controlled the car and kept him from getting hurt. I asked why God has to do everything half assed? Why didn't God just wake him up before he wrecked. That would have taken less effort on his part.

The reason you don't bother with a list like this is because humanity always makes up bullshit super heros and the one they advocate is always the one their argument will lead to. WHAT A SHOCKER!
