I find it interesting to hear about the evolution of the porn industry. You guys were around long long, long long long before I was.
Having only just hopped into the porn world more than reading a story here and there, I have to say its very readily available. I can see how the subscription services make money because most of the more in depth stuff is available by subscription.
My biggest problem with the free porn sites is that the ads are not filtered, so there's movie ads of little girl looking women and I can see how over time it would confuse your pleasure center since it shows up right before the video you actually want to see. I wish that was regulated better.
I can't say porn influenced me negatively as of yet. I've learned a lot about biology 101 from them--having been raised isolated in a religious environment and being opted out of sex ed courses for 'religious reasons'. Porn certainly had some major impacts on my early sexuality transitioning years. I went into sex practically blind having seen only a few HBO Skinemax softcore features. I didnt learn much from them but something that did impact me, was the lesbian couplings. I realized that girls other than me had those feelings for other girls. It was a relief even if i was torn between my natural thoughts and tendencies about girls and my own religious self persecution.
Between the 'Christian academy schools', homeschooling, and subsequent isolation later in public high school, I'd say I'm definitely a special case. But I wasn't too far behind a lot of my peers (80s babies). They were all just about as censored as I was (living in Kansas).
Porn was the only outside influence I had to refer to, when it came to sex. It did more than reflect my sexuality--porn confirmed its' existence as being a thing other than in my brain, which was invaluable.
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.
Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.
Quote:Some people deserve hell.
I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

I sort of skimmed through some responses so I'm sorry if I'm repeating something here, and I have nothing to back up my opinion except 2 cents and a cup of coffee:
I really think the only reason porn has as much of an influence as it does is in the societies that complain about it is due to inherent prudishness in those societies.
For instance: American women suffer from a lot of body image and negative sexual education. Many receive piss poor information about their own reproductive and sexual health. American society on a whole receives incredibly shitty messages about how to conduct relationships. Blame this on religion if you like, but atheists fuck up a lot of stuff too.
As a result, many people feel guilty about their consumption or participation in porn because of external shaming. The idea of getting caught with it or doing it is pretty scary, and we've had several stories lately involving some awful slut-shaming of girls who either made porn for enjoyment or money (or both). Many women don't even know what their own vagina looks like, and if they do look at it in a mirror they might get freaked out because it doesn't look like the vag they saw in a porno once or thrice upon a time. Newsflash: most womens' vagoos don't look like that. But since we don't really see each other naked anymore, we're out of touch with how incredibly varied everyone is in size, shape, color, etc. This goes for men too - I know and knew lots of guys with perfectly adequate to large or HOLY SHIT sized penises who thought they weren't big enough 'because of porn' who likewise hadn't exactly seen a bunch of other dudes naked (I guess guys hide themselves as much as women do in lockers rooms?) to know the differences.
There's nothing wrong with sex, but Americans treat sex like there IS something terribly wrong with it, by and large, so their information access isn't always robust and well-sourced. Porn isn't an accurate representation of sex just like movies aren't a great representation of real life, but how are misinformed people supposed to know that? Especially given how poor people are at separating movies from real life...
If you educate your society from the ground up, porn becomes an awesome tool. You can enjoy it when you're single and looking for release, you can use it to find new ideas to try with yourself or your partners, etc. If you don't bother educating your culture, you end up with a bunch of neurotic idiots constantly second-guessing themselves as to whether or not their up to par or if their predilections are 'weird.'
As for the OP's question about influence: dude, porn isn't doing anything today that hasn't been done for millennia. Ask any piece of ancient Greek pottery. Ginormous dildos were a thing, and there's no new position advertised in Cosmo that wasn't already invented.
NSFW:
Do you know what they were taking pictures of when the camera was invented? Cats dressed up in outfits (no joke) and pornographic scenes. There's an incredibly rich history surrounding BDSM back into Victorian times and earlier. People don't make porn to try and get others to try things - they make porn because the market already exists. Rape fantasies, balloon popping, pony-play, etc - that shit was already there and someone just filmed it for their enjoyment.

I must say, I kind of like my vagoo? compared to some I have seen. They're all different, but I think mine is nice...just saying

I'd like to review the evidence before coming...
... to a decision.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Hehe....I could make that happen....maybe. I've been thinking about it lately.

Mine is all I got, and if I had the money for plastic surgery, I'd probably spend it on a Tesla instead. I don't think I ever knew to be bothered by how it looked until a couple years ago when a news story pointed out the fact that women were going in for augmentation to make theirs look like porn stars'. I had a real WTF moment.
I might have worried, except no one's ever complained (guys seem pretty happy just to have access to vagina in general without being especially picky about its overall construction) and one guy was rather complementary on its visual appearance. So....[shrugs] Seems to me as long as it's clean, healthy, and feels good to me and the person involved, what's to worry about?
You know what's funny? While we're discussing media-driven appearances, people bitch all the fucking time about no-sex-performing models being skeletal, but I see a lot of healthy looking girls in porn. And by healthy I mean they may not be overweight necessarily, but they definitely have some stomach roll when they bend over, and jiggle, and curves (not always augmented). Basically, other than a boob job and some heavy make up/nail jobs, they're a lot more natural looking. And those girls do some crazy moves and sit in some athletically awkward positions that require, at the very least, the sort of muscle-strength you get from yoga-exercises. I'm not saying there aren't some extremely skinny girls in porn, but the ones I've seen look like they're that way because that's how their genetic make up made them - not because someone told them to be a hanger for the dress they're modeling.
I think I'd rather let my body be 'influenced' by porn than magazines, for all that.
