Life after death?
RE: Life after death?
LOL, there's actually some pretty good stuff in there. I especially like it when Cain says "What the fuck are you asking me for...you're god, I don't know where he went. I hit that asshole in the head with a rock and he stopped making annoying sounds, I assume he's off somewhere playing with the goats you love so damned much. Where is he, anyway?"
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Must be an acquired taste.

That's what I was afraid of. My gag reflex is just too strong.

No real reason you need to read it. I'm rather fond of Joseph and his coat. It's a very human story about jealousy and forgiveness.

My favorite is when God sent she-bears to fuck up 42 children who were making fun of a dude.

I prefer the non gruesome moments. Remember when Jacob had the brilliant idea to put striped and spotted sticks in front of plain cattle? No? Well........when they had loud, nasty cowsex while looking at the sticks all the calves came out striped and spotted, instead of plain. Did I mention that he liked striped and spotted cattle? Well, he did, immensely! It worked so well that he decided to do it with the rest of his boss' livestock, and in this way conned him out of a great deal of wealth. Claiming the striped and spotted cattle(which we've established he had a thing for) as his own, he and his wife(a bit of an amateur thief herself, very fond of nick-nacks) then skipped town. For the record, his boss was a dick.

(any of you guys watch drunk history? I'd love to get on a hangout and do "drunk genesis" some night...lol)

All atheists believe in life after death because once we die our matter will be brought back to life the issue is that it won't be our consciousness attached to it. Consciousness comes from matter so in a weird way nobody avoids tana'sukh when they die. Nobody truly dies forever or lives forever. Matter and energy are eternal and thus consciousness is as well. Our matter and our consciousness is just divided amongst the earth and scattered.

Clever tricks are big in Genesis and god seems to approve of them all:

I'll just tell him my wife is my sister and then god will get him when he sleeps with her.

We'll just get them to convert and cut their own foreskins, then we'll annihilate them while they're still bedridden.

I'll just put this skin over my chest so my blind father thinks I'm my brother.

Trickery is another thing Genesis has in common with folk lore and myth. Angel Cloud Oh wait . . . .

The culture of the people who wrote Genesis valued trickery as being clever and wise, even moral.
But it's not like Hollywood filmmakers are trying to tell us that the secret to success is to shoot enough people and have sex with the nearest woman.

Exactly, the moral culture of the people who wrote Genesis is rather different from ours (to put it mildly) and consequently the morals of the god they invented are rather different from ours too. Greek myth and other myths share this with the OT in that they exemplify the culture and morality of their time and place as do the gods they invent.

Hollywood does not invent a god to match it's dubious morals. But then it's not supposed to be a collection of holy films.

Ref. Post #219: You do realize don't you that Nimrod founded his empire from the town of Babel in Assyria. It's actually a very good story, especially now that the ISIS wackos just destroyed Jonah's tomb in Nineveh, which Nimrod also built and which later became the capital city of Assyria. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?se...rsion=NKJV

The God character at that time was the Babylonian Emperor. The passage about the "whole world speaking one language" refers only to the Israelites/Hebrews/Jews before they got their butts whipped and sent into exile. The writers jumbled up the story so it's somewhat hard to follow. Anyway, Assyria and other civilizations were alive and kicking when Adam & Eve were romping around the Garden of Eden like naked jaybirds and they survived Noah's flood. But they did make the Tower of Babel waterproof.
