Jesus' Sacrifice

But you are not 100% father, son, or husband Tongue Otherwise where would the person we know as fr0d0 be? Tongue

Ah - but if you were attempting to draw similarities to God, then all would be one person, just schizophrenic.

Of course I am 100% father to my son - what else am I? Same with my dad and wife - I'm not part son to either of them!

Wrong. If you were 100% father to your son, then you could not be anything else. Suggesting that A is 100% B is to declare that A is B, and is nothing else. That's what 100% means: completely and utterly a single thing. The very definition of 'pure'.

For example... take a bottle of evenly mixed pure mercury and pure water. Sure, the bottle contains '100% water', and it contains '100% mercury'... but it is not 100% of either.

??? How do you come by that idea?

So I am not 100% a father to my son?? I didn't know it was possible for 3 male sperm to fertilize one egg. Please explain.. Smile

The aspects of God are also commonly referred to as persona. Which fits in with schizophrenia I think? Smile

RE: Jesus' Sacrifice
The problem with calling yourself 100% _____ is that it denies that you are anything but that. While you are probably the father of your son... you are hopefully more than just that. That is why you are not 100% a father to your son. To be more accurate, one of your sperm was 100% the father of your son. I demonstrated why this is with the bottle of mercury-water above.

So basically you are suggesting that:

Larry is schitzophrenic.
Bob is one of the characters of Larry, with a specific personality.
Susan is one of the characters of Larry, with a specific personality.
Jen is one of the characters of Larry, with a specific personality.

Bob is not Jen, Susan is not Jen, and Jen is not Susan. However, all of them are contained by Larry.

In which case none of them ARE Larry... but all of them are contained by individual of Larry. To translate this to your god:

God is schitzophrenic.
The Son is one of the characters of God, with a specific personality.
The Holy Ghost is one of the characters of God, with a specific personality.
The Father is one of the characters of God, with a specific personality.

The Son is not the Holy Ghost, the Holy Ghost is not the Father, the Father is not the Son. However, all of them are contained by God.

In which case none of them ARE God... but all of them are contained by the individual of God.

This is contrary to the theory that Jesus=God, so schitzophrenia is hardly a good theory to go by, now is it?

I am 100% of the father I am to my son. Less or more wouldn't be me as the father.

No metaphor I've known fits perfectly. That's not the point of a metaphor. It helps describe the idea, which is all we need of it. In this case, Jesus isn't contained by God, but is one of his tripartite persona's.

RE: Jesus' Sacrifice
The Trinity was a compromise. When Christianity was killing itself over whether Jesus was the same substance as God the father, a compromise was devised to keep people from killing each other. That is Jesus was God the father, but wasn't. It was never meant to be understood by anyone, just make everyone think their side one the debate. Sort of like college football. There is no metaphor to explain it. It is just one of the many stupid things that Christianity has adopted for which there is no real Biblical reference.

Well your explanation has a lot less substance than the early church fathers explanation LEDO so I have no reason to switch. Certainly there were early Christians who didn't think Jesus was God, and this was corrected to fall in line with what most understood from the bible... and that's entirely supported in the texts. Trinity is never mentioned, but God the multiple yet one entity was described as such consistently.

RE: Jesus' Sacrifice
I have 2 problems with this, so I said no:

1. I wouldn't particularly want to die at all for whatever reason - being God might be over rated anyhow.

2. WAY too much responsibility... for any one person I say, not just for myself. What would give me - or anyone else for that matter - the right to so much power?

I recently took an Abnormal Psych class, and I have to admit; that is not Schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is about delusions and hallucinations, and not about creating separate personae. What you have described is Multiple Personality Disorder.
