Is this your first day on the internet? Do you really think total strangers are going to transfer you money when they have no idea who you really are and no way of knowing whether what you say is true or not. Maybe you want to try somewhere else, this isn't a place for you to beg for money.

I was homeless, living in my car for 18 months, and I had a job the entire time. So yes... If someone (homeless or otherwise) makes the effort, and has follow-through, then there are jobs for whomever most applies themselves.

So if you had one the entire time then you didn't apply for a job whilst actually being homeless. So how can you say homeless people can get jobs? You only had one because you had one from before you became homeless. Most businesses won't go near you if you can't give them a home address when you apply.

There are only a few jobs around this area and I've applied repeatedly. I've had a couple of interviews, but nobody has called back. In person, I have a couple of tics that sort of force me to explain I'm autistic. I have very limited job experience. And everywhere I've applied has plenty of job applications of people without these issues. Prior to being homeless I was income based housing but I lost that after reevaluation because of changes they made on how they evaluate. I had no way to pay my rent and was evicted.

A lot of these pages have had great success, all from people relying on the compassion of strangers. And I'm not begging for money. Any kind of support like sharing my page, becoming a supporter, or giving me fundraising tips is great. I wouldn't want anyone to donate that doesn't have the disposable income to give to charity. I would never ever ask for that.

And most decent people will give work to an earnest person who makes an effort. I didn't say I worked for a 'business'. I said I had a job the entire time - more like multiple jobs throughout the entire time period. It would have been better stated that I had 'work' the entire time. I had no difficulty getting work, even in 'dry' periods I was able to support myself without putting my hand out.

I have no beef with you Napoleon, it just may be that you and I have had differing life experiences.

I'm sorry but I disagree.

Your personal experiences may have bucked the trend, but it is most certainly not easy for a homeless person to get a job.

Maybe you should stop looking for a 'job' and start looking for 'work' to do. Historically, whenever I have looked for a 'job' I've found several competitors in the same marketplace. BUT... whenever I've looked for 'work' to do, I've found 'work' in places where people never thought to market it as a 'job' that others may compete against me for. In other words... Create your own market, and corner it!

You need to get out and become known to people as someone who is a reliable, productive person, willing to give as well as receive. Most churches are involved in projects to help in the community. Our church has free, open dinners every Wednesday night and food give-a-ways on Saturdays and we always need help. We're also connected with a local food bank and support it with people and money. Volunteer to help out with these types of things and show them what you've got. As you participate you receive the satisfaction of helping others as well as receiving help yourself. You also show people around you what kind of person you are and meet more people who might be able to connect you to job opportunities. They'll be more willing to help you in that way if they can vouch for your reliability. As long as you spend your time sitting around and feeling depressed, you'll get nowhere. Since you're an atheist, I won't say that I'll pray for you (some take offense). I just will.

It goes like this...

Approach someone who knows you and your situation (it doesn't have to be a close friend).

In depth of sincerity, and in all humility, ask them if they have work for you to do (any work you are able to do) - VOLUNTEER!

Do this among your acquaintances, do it frequently and persistently, all without being pushy (you'll have to gauge that based upon your associations).

EVENTUALLY, you'll get a 'hit' and when you do a good job, ask for more work.

Word will spread that the 'homeless person' living in their car has demonstrated superior drive and willingness to help, all while doing excellent work.

More 'work' will follow, and if you do good work, then someone may offer you a 'job'.

Getting 'work' is the only 'job' you should be looking for.

Do you have the resources to come to where I am and show me how to do this? I've been able to do some cleaning, but it is not anything close to coming up with $600 per month for a place to live, or to the money to even get a new battery for my car and there's something wrong with it that makes it stall all the time. There have also been many times I was OBVIOUSLY propositioned for sex with the implication that it might "help me." If I were willing, I could be living with someone in exchange for casual sexual relationship. I've had other women tell me online that that's what they've had to do. I would just rather be dead than go that route.

We have hired people to do yard work and/or house work from time to time who were either in or about to be in your situation.

Rather than begging from the church you might offer some janitorial services in return for the right to stay in the parking lot.
