Liberal and Conservative Oversimplistic Labels?

RE: Liberal and Conservative Oversimplistic Labels?

There are a couple things I love about the photo:
1. The fact they are having to hide behind police tape.

2. Demonstrating in front of a historical marker that represents the white race's superior ability to go back on its word; i.e, a broken Indian treaty.

I like to consider myself as George Orwell did: Libertarian left. Unlike him, though, I wouldn't consider myself socially conservative.

I'm for small but effective government that handles basic social needs and keeps the classes from growing too unequal. I want housing and healthcare for all and would like to see a HUGE reduction in militarism.

Left of Gandhi---that's impressive.
Quote:Also, I tend to think in terms of human rights rather than individual rights. If one of the Koch brothers had his money taken away for some reason, and then given to some homeless guy, I'd probably cheer. As much as capitalism is a great thing in many ways, it's turned into extreme hoarding to the detriment of my country, and I'm not cool with that.
Firstly, let's distinguish from human rights and fundamental rights. Essentially they are the same, human rights are the ones we speak in the UN, form an international scale, fundamental rights are up to each country, but a minimum of fundamental rights must match human rights. That being said, human rights and fundamental rights are individual rights, because they belong to each person and inalienable, each individual can make subjective personal use of their rights. You see, in other countries the opposite is happening, the government intervened too much and now people want more capitalism, my guess is too much of something is not good. I don't know tho the Koch brothers are but I'm against taking people's money as an obligation, instead of welfare I support creation of sustainable jobs, it's harder but the best solution on the long run. I live in a country with houses for homeless people done by charity, they have food, a bed, water and hygiene, most of them don't go there because they don't like having hours to lay down and wake up, can't drink, can't smoke, can't consume substances, etc... So honestly where I am living currently I don't feel sorry for most homeless, I can count by the fingers the ones that aren't drug addicts.
Quote:When I really look at the US and what problems it has, it's not hard to notice that the extreme sides of the political spectrum are what are fucking my country up. Black and white doesn't work in a country with 314 million people, and I'm sick to death of the pretense that it does through the electoral college.
That's what I meant when I said both sides should just handshake and go for an equilibrium, my rant in politics was right libertarian pretty close to the middle and I wouldn't mind making an agreement with a left wing person if it was for the good of my country. I still think these quizes are biased with american way of seeing things, questions like 'are white people superior?' or asking if 'the death penalty should be allowed?' make no sense for an european and will only leave me more on the left than I am, just like the questions regarding military, my country doesn't intervene in anything so I don't have a specific answer for them

One block up you say? Fascist! Wink Shades 6 to the left, 6 down.

I also propose that the quiz has a conservative bias - and that they are attempting to claim me for the right with their vapid and socially regressive questions. Angel
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I think the quiz has an american bias so I disagree with you. Some questions like 'Is one race superior' or 'Is the death penalty viable?' automatically will make an european more to the left when those questions are not even considered as legitimate for any politician in europe. I think the quiz makes you more left wing than what you are. It is a complete myth right wing is about racial superiority, even for far right parties (but this happens often), just like it is a myth right wing hates change, I personally like change as long as it's progressive and gradual, justified. But I got almost in the middle, only 2 square to the right on the libertarian side.

And many of the questions should have a neutral stance because I don't want to agree or disagree, some of them are not specific enough. Meh I think I'll start a thread to ask people what my political orientation is.

It's all the rage of late. I'll be there.
(my comment was a bit of an inside joke for americans, but of course, you have valid points with regards to your own positions)

And of course me being an atheist automatically make me more left wing oriented while I don't consider there is a causation. Mussolini was an atheist and he started the first fascist regime.
