Well...pushing a baby out of your vagina isn't fun. It hurts and it's dangerous and can even be traumatizing for some people.

I wonder if it's a coincidence that I've only ever seen men make the argument of, "well, if it's that late-term, they should just have the baby".

Ok but isn't a late term abortion performed trough surgery? A surgery can be traumatizing and leave scars as far as I know (It didn't for me, luckily) - And aren't premature babies extracted trough surgery too? (at least sometimes they are). I'm sorry if my question is ignorant, I'm just trying to understand the debate.
As far as I know the argument of trauma isn't that all relevant since having an abortion can also be a traumatizing event for some women, it just depends. Rexbecca I understand no one should force you to have a baby just because they feel like it - But what reasons are there to abort late term b sides exceptional situations such as the ones I've mentioned? As far as I know, late term abortion is allowed if there is a severe problem, no questions asked, it just isn't allowed if the woman has a perfectly healthy baby and only decided to make the decision 3 months after the deadline. There's deadlines for everything, but the possibility to make a choice is still there. I don't think this constitutes a severe problem up for debate since very few women voluntarily decide to abort late term just because they feel like doing so, there's usually a reason, a strong one, and it's usually legally permitted. Losty, just correcting something you said - Just because something isn't illegal that doesn't make it right, not saying you're wrong or anything, just correcting that. Some laws may say the death penalty is not murder, but that doesn't mean the death penalty isn't murder, I believe it is and it has become an undeniable reality for me. There's also a lack of laws to protect animals from abuse, that doesn't mean animal cruelty is right.

Obviously, if I got pregnant I would get an abortion ASAP. That way I wouldn't have to deal with the emotional trauma. However, if let's say I were to wake up from a coma 8 months pregnant and amazingly my baby is perfectly healthy....I would still have an abortion. It would be hard, very hard, but sometimes the right choice doesn't feel/look good. Sometimes you have to make the right choice even when it hurts and even if everyone thinks you're a monster.
I am the only person who gets to make that choice for me. RE: Abortion/Consciousness/Life

It would be hard, very hard, but sometimes the right choice doesn't feel/look good. Sometimes you have to make the right choice even when it hurts and even if everyone thinks you're a monster. Of course, but that is perfectly justified! It's different. But let's say you knew about the deadline and only wanted to make an abortion 8 months later, just because you voluntarily didn't care about it - What sense is there? I like to put myself in women's shoes when discussing this, I can't do it perfectly, but I'll tell you this - If I was a female and I got pregnant now, I'd abort ASAP just like you said, and I'd like to have that right - In fact I'd abort if I wasn't financially stable and psychologically ready to raise a baby (which I am not currently) - But I wouldn't do it 8 months later, I'd think about it and make the decision - The sooner the better. It doesn't mean late term abortions shouldn't be allowed - They should, but I see more justification if there is a strong reason. It doesn't constitute a severe problem, so it shouldn't be outlawed, since most women anyway have reasons to do it.

Obviously. No one finds out they're pregnant and decides to wait 8 months to abort. <2% of abortions are late term. Of that small percentage, most are for medical reasons, some are because of extreme unpredictable circumstances, some are because the mother needed time to save up money, few (if any honestly I've never heard of this) are just because they don't want a baby.
Ok new scenario then. Let's say I never wanted kids, but my husband is so ecstatic when he hears the news and he begs me to keep the pregnancy. I do, because I love him dearly. Then when I am 8 months pregnant my husband is brutally murdered before my eyes. Yep having an abortion for sure. Edited: wow I can't type tonight lol (October 4, 2014 at 10:16 pm)rexbeccarox Wrote:(October 4, 2014 at 10:14 pm)Losty Wrote: Well...pushing a baby out of your vagina isn't fun. Maybe legit, not saying I'd do it - But I guess it's ok. I think you shouldn't be having kids just because your husband says so in the first place but that's a different subject As a woman I'd like to have the right to abort, and that's all I can say. Putting myself in the woman's shoes it is the only rational decision. If I choose to abort or not that would be a different topic, but it's a personal choice.
