Spanking is a horrifyingly barbaric Bronze Age relic. If people who are spanked become decent people it's despite NOT because of spanking. I remember how I was on a field trip with my classmates that allowed us to participate in an 18th century colonial one room schoolhouse, and the "teacher" ended up ordering us to line up and close our eyes and hold out our hands so that we could be swatted with a ruler. You will never know how relieved I was when the exercise came to an end and the promised punishment didn't happen.
Luke: You don't believe in the Force, do you?
Han Solo: Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen *anything* to make me believe that there's one all-powerful Force controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls *my* destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.

An interesting aside...there's a simple reason that violence doesn't work on my eldest daughter as a form of behavior modification.....I taught her how to put a mean armbar on anybody dumb enough to stick their mitts out (really drilled it in, till it was a reaction). Ah, the calls from the kindergarten teacher were priceless....

I feel really young when I see people here have children older than me

Enjoy it while you can. Before you know it, you'll be looking at yourself in the mirror and muttering, "What the fuck happened?"

Yeah my father in law keeps telling me that, and the popular phrase 'getting old sucks'

I'm okay with getting older. Just wish I could slow things down a bit.
