This way of thinking will unite us all, it will become a new religion, there will be no other religion than this, but sadly most of us are not ready yet, we are not civilized enough yet, and we are not mature enough yet, we have to let go of our security blanket called religion. This new way of thinking has already started, there are many people out there that are leading the way, people like Jacque Fresco, Eckhart Tolle and many more.
Well its better to know the truth than a bronze age lie.
That's true, but then what is truth, who's opinion do we take as being the truth, this is how religion became so divers, with all sorts of opinions called truth, and fighting over who's truth is truth.

It's not too much to ask for demonstratability.

I think outlawing religion is not right, and in fact would be entirely impossible. You can't stop people coming up with ridiculous beliefs and sharing them with their mates. Organized religion could be better regulated though.
I think the answer is education. Educate parents on the potential harm of indoctrination, educate everyone about science and critical thinking, and make sure religion is not afforded special status to break laws or to avoid criticism (very relevant at the moment).
My aim would be to relegate religion to have the power it deserves according to how much sense it makes, in other words, very little. Then people can do whatever funny religious stuff they want, but it would be a bit of fun and not taken too seriously by the population as a whole.
If that doesn't work, then I'll email god and see if he has any better suggestions. You all have his handle right?

Yes, but some wouldn't be able to live knowing no god exists and that there is nothing after we are dead.
evolution at its best.

Religion is just a form of tribalism. I consider it a particularly dangerous form because of the part involving an invisible moral arbiter who offers great reward/punishment. But it's just one of many ways that we form inclusive/exclusive groups and wind up judging people based on particular choices or traits. I am hopeful that religion is just a phase in the way we form such groups, in that we may someday ratchet down the violence often associated with tribalism (example- the savage beatings and even killings that have been happening over sports allegiances, or racial differences, or national/ethnic differences, etc).
Which is to say that if religion didn't exist, we'd have invented it. And, well... we did.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
