Christians. Could you be wrong?

Is there anything that could convince you that the God of the Bible may not exist?

How did it miss this thread?

If all you need is evidence, then simply A/S/K (Ask Seek Knock as outlined in Luke 11.) and God will provide it.

What would convince me God does not exist? If He told me He didn't.
Angel

And when you asked Thor, Jupiter and the rest if they exist did they tell you they didn't exist? Or did you take their silence as damning the same way I did toward your god?

RE: Christians. Could you be wrong?
I posed that very scenario ages ago, on this very forum. I told the theist du jour about my dream in which "God" told me "he" doesn't exist. He rationalised it into one of three options: I was lying; I was being truthful; I was deceived by "Satan". Guess which he picked as the most likely.

So forgive me, Drich, if I seem less than fully whelmed by your little jesting proclamation. I have a prophecy with your name on it as to how you would interpret such a revelation.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

If a 'real christian' is one who can perform Jesus' miracles, then there's no such thing.

I bet you think you're one of the elect, though. Every Christian seems to.

There is a story in the Bible about Jesus meeting a Samaritan woman at a well and revealing to her the sin she was keeping secret (she had something like 5 husbands).

Earlier I posted an old video (recorded sometime in the 1950's) of a man doing exactly the same thing. In case you haven't seen it: When people would come up to the stage to be healed, he, having never met the person, could tell them what sickness they had, name, and address ect.

This isn't done to showoff, it's done because divine healing is operated by faith (scientific studies using placebos show this). And gift of discernment makes it easier for the person to believe.

I made a short video from a recording taken from April 6, 1956 to give an example.

this may be a little off topic but I also found a recording taken August 6, 1961 of a vision he seen in 1933 describing a driverless car which I added to footage of the Google car. Keep in mind he's describing what he saw in 1933.

Miracles are operated by faith and the fact that you claim to be an unbeliever ensures that you will never see the supernatural. was not Jesus himself unable to preform miracles in a certain city because the peoples unbelief was so great?

Quote:Matthew 13 57-58
And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

If you're looking to see miracles, you will most likely not see them in developed 1st world countries but in some poor backwater 3rd world nations, where faith is a way of life (rich people tend to rely on money). Which also has the side effect of no one ever hearing about them.
Quote:John 14:19
Yet a little while, and the world (unbelievers) seeth me no more; but ye (believers) see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

If God told me He did not exist, then I would take it to mean He does not exist as I understand God to exist. Therefore I would assume if God told you He did not exist (meaning He did exist in some form or fashion, otherwise who would be their to tell you anything) then I would assume the truth of that proclamation would be the same For you. God simply does exist as you understand God to exist.. Or if you prefer your personal understanding of God does not exist.

Thor's fate as the God was sealed the moment he lost his first battle to the Incredible Hulk.

Jupiter lost credibility when as protector of the empire was not able to keep the empire from falling apart.

The 'rest' all share a similar fate.

That must be very convenient for you. Angel

Jesus was able to miracle water into wine, which is an objective phenomena. If what you claim is true, then you should be able to do that too, and it's easy to test that. Hell, I don't even have to be in the room for that. We'll just put you in a room with a cup of water in it and nothing else, lock the door, even fill the room with other believers just so long as none of them bring any wine with them. I could be on the other side of the planet! Just miracle the water into wine, surrounded by believers, and then send in a video camera once you're done. If it happens you might even open me up to belief, which means there's simply no reason why it shouldn't work. Why not just do that?

But I am interested in this claim you're making here: are you saying you can turn water into wine and so on, just never when someone who doesn't agree that you can do that can see? Thinking

Or maybe because, on the average, ignorance is more widespread in 3rd world countries and therefore people there tend to be heavier on magical thinking?

Um... When the empire fell, christianity was enforced as the official religion of the empire and paganism was strongly "discouraged"...

So now we(atheist) ask Christians if they could be wrong?!! Ohh I wish Pascal's Wager were alive to see this.

In other words, you would rationalise (spin) the revelation to match your preconceived notion. Isn't that what I prophesied you would do? Score another to me. I've got a much better hit rate than anyone in your tatty old fairybook.

Incidentally, the theist of whom I spoke, whose name escapes me but ought to be easily traceable by anyone arsed to do so, rationalised the account of my dream as my being deceived by the devil. He had to; it couldn't have been a mere dream, or a lie, because that opened up the floodgtaes on every other divinely inspired dream. I couldn't have been relating a true revelation, as in his mind the idea of his god speaking to an atheist bluescreened his brain. So the most likely option he could come up with was that the devil was fucking with me and using me to test his faith.

Incidentally, Huggy, if you'll indulge me: you state your religious views that you believe in "God" but not religion. So, why do you quote the xtian bible so much?
