Vodka is a wonderful thing. Force it onto someone who not only can't consent but doesn't even know what it is, however...
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Do they ever explain why they need to do it in the first place, instead of Yahweh just making people born without this stuff?

As Oldm8 said, modesty, purity, aesthetics (really?....really?.....sigh) - with a heaping helping of just because-and shut your mouth or I'll slice your godamned head off while I'm in a cutting mood anyway.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

No of course not. Period.

It was part of a covenant that Yahweh made with Abraham.
Genesis 17:1-14 Wrote:When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.”

Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.”

Then God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come. This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised. You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring. Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant. Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.”
Imagine Abraham as an ambitious actress, Yahweh as the sleazy producer, and circumcision as the casting couch. "I'll make you a star," he says...
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

But the child is never consulted in this matter.
There may have been great health benefits from this procedure in ages past but in the modern world?
Germany where this procedure is not routine, mooted banning it on human rights grounds, there was uproar from the religious communities and it was quietly dropped.
Lets go one further FGM Female Genital Mutilation as Practised throughout a great part of North Africa mainly by Islamic communities. Extreme unnecessary violence against little girls leading to lifelong medical problems.
Should we endeavour to ban these practises or should we not upset the rights of religious people to violate their children.

FGM in the UK is illegal.

Male circumcision though will never be outlawed due to the potential furore from what are in reality very small minority communities (Jews & Muslims).

Agree with your sentiment though. Disfiguring a child (which is exactly what circumcisions are) for no other reason than belief is barbaric and should be made illegal.

I think the title is slightly misleading. circumcision is bad, but not the first thing I think about when someone mentions violent abuse.

I think the same about piercing ears to females when they are babies, it should be illegal, just like it is illegal to refuse a blood transfusion to your child because you're a JW
