As much as they say they hate it, fundies love to complain about persecution. It makes them feel right and vindicated for believing demonstrably stupid things. That, and claiming that most Christians aren't "true" Christians, so they can make themselves more of a righteous minority.

It's not only that, but I feel like when a religious majority claims persecution, it's a way of saying 'I'm really upset my religion doesn't dictate how society should live, damn why are we not a theocracy again?'.
An easy example to prove my point:
Judge - Gay marriage is now legal
Christian - Oh no! They approved, they are going against my religious freedom, now I have to accept gay sinners into society and I can't refuse to interact with them for being gay, what a shame...
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you
