I find out that we have a food shortage, I can't drink my favourite drink (but we've got baklava, lots n lots of baklava).

Physical geography varies widely, which has impact on the various regional cultures. For example, in Southern California, you can go a long, long time without wearing or needing a coat.

Culturally, it's a strange mix of complete homogeneity (there is a Walmart, Applebees, Dennys, Starbucks in virtually every corner) and regional differences in cuisine, stress, density, etc.

I've traveled all over the US for my job and the homogeneity is winning. I try to seek out what the local culture has to offer but these days, it's hard to find.

Religious habits do vary, but from a work standpoint, never really intrudes. In Washington, where I live, there is a church about every 200 feet, and we're one of the least religious in the country. I'll never forget the first time I was in the deep south (Pensacola) and almost every radio station had some idiot preacher shouting out the fire and brimstone.

Some differences are subtle, others more overt.

That map makes America look like a giant, ugly bruise.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Wow, I never thought Mormons were that widespread.

What's the difference between Southern Baptists and the other Baptists?

The power is back. Big Grin

What regions are less homophobic, more racist, accepting in general.

It means "The hag of the siesta", she kidnaps disobedient kids who won't sleep during the siesta.

Ps: I'm the only one who uses that transliteration system. Big Grin
