I don't know. I think as a child I had a dread of the end of the world. Mostly I didn't have much on the crazy scale though.

..And how could I forget the multiple people living well over 200 years old. I counted 7 over 900 years old. Not bad, for the life expectancy being about 35. Some of them could still get pretty busy apparently, if you know what I mean. OOOOOHHHHH YYAAAAAAA!!!!

I was always a moderate/liberal Christian. I guess the craziest thing was when I went to four different gatherings a week for a short bit. Besides Sunday services, there was a youth group on Wednesday and Friday at two different churches, and a bible study on Thursday. after a few weeks, my mother suggested I should give up one, since that was a bit much. Some more hardcore Christians probably wouldn't call that crazy, though.
Actually craziest belief. I read the title wrong, I guess. I suppose the craziest thing was taking all the early bible stories as literal.

For sure Noah's Arc. How big was this ship? How did they catch all the animals? Why didn't the animals kill each other. I've wasted lots of time on Noah. Too much to watch the Russel Crowe movie for sure.

Oh man, I think you guys missed the big one. The CRAZIEST belief I had was that when I prayed, god was listening and talking back to me via magic telepathy.

I knew that the place a person was born was the biggest determining factor of their religion. I knew that it would be harder for a person in a non-Christian land to convert to Christianity. I believed that if a person didn't accept Jesus as their lord and savior, they would go to hell.
In light of all that, I used to consider myself lucky to be born in a country that worshiped the "correct" god. I was kind of an asshole to other people, so long as I could reconcile my (unfounded) beliefs. RE: Atheists/Non-Religious What was your Craziest Belief while in your Religion?

There was this crazy "miracle" in my country where a statue of "Our Lady" was seen dripping tears of blood from her eyes. Within minutes the tale was spread around my small and naive country and before you know it people were saying that Jesus sent his mother to watch over our country.
I was already an atheist when this happened and so I enjoyed making fun of the people who actually believed it. RE: Atheists/Non-Religious What was your Craziest Belief while in your Religion?

This one might seem a bit tame compared to others, but the whole transubstantiation thing. That was actually one of the things that made me start questioning all this shit, since when I was like..9 years old I realized that I was supposedly eating the flesh of another human.

Why do the religious get more crazy after you lose you faith? Next Friday's sermon in the mosque I go to is about miracles (I never heard about these ones. the teaser was about Muhammad being visited by a guy whose eye have been popped (by a stone?), so the prophet of god fixed it and made it better than the other eye). Can't wait for another exciting sermon. |
