The reason why the universe could not always have existed because if it did you would have had an eternity to come into being before now, so you should have already happened.

Then explain to me, without resorting to unsubstantiated magic, how God could have existed for an eternity and yet we're not yet out of time.

There is no way you can possibly appreciate how nonsensical your position sounds, can you? Did you know it is possible to be theist without believing self-contradictory or just plain stupid things? I won't ask you to become an atheist. But please work on improving your theology.

I thought we agreed atheism is false?

Nowhere in modern science does it say something came from nothing. If you actually look up the Big Bang theory, it's current version says the universe was a singularity, which is definitely not nothing.

But the singularity has a cause since it didn't always exist.

No it's not. God just happens to be imaginary. Kind of like money. If you'd like to work for money, that's cool. If you'd like to work for god, that's cool too. If you'd like to work for nothing, that's your choice. Whatever works.

The singularity is a mathematical construct, and is probably a placeholder in the theory until we can find some more evidence for what happened at and before the Big Bang. The fact that we don't know for certain doesn't mean you can use your god-of-the-gaps approach though. Science doesn't know does not imply god.
