JW's snatch terminally ill son from hospital.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-28978655

Quote: A five-year-old boy with a brain tumour has been taken without consent from hospital by his parents, sparking a major police hunt for the family.

Ashya King was taken from Southampton General Hospital and is now believed to be in France with his parents and six siblings.

Police said he needs constant medical care and there are "serious concerns" for his life if he is not found today.

My brother in law is a JW and one of the worst people I know, but that's for another post..

At first I was like, "John Wayne is still alive??" and then it was like "John Wayne had a sex change and his snatch is ill?!?!" Followed by "They actually reporting this shit?", but I understand now that it is merely time for sleep. Hope they find him. Sick bastards.

Nice job taking away your child's life because you follow a bronze-age superstition.
A human life is worth nothing when it's out of the womb now isn't it?

By the way, there is a tiny anecdote being told around the town where I live... It supposedly happened four or five years ago.
They say there was this little kid who needed a blood transfusion REALLY bad, because he had to endure a dangerous operation. Of course his JW parents didn't want it to get done because of their religion. The medic apparently told them "alright, we won't do anything and we'll see if your child recovers on his own", and then had the transfusion done when the parents were gone, so in the end, the kid was alright.
His parents returned the next day and the doctor told them that the kid didn't make it; they started to cry and mourn for their loss and then after a while - surprise - a nurse brought their child in. He was alive and well, and his parents had been taught a lesson.

Again, this is all hearsay and I don't really know the details, but if it's true, then kudos to the medic.

This sort of thing is why I am anti-religion.

They are probably loving, caring parents who wouldn't dream of hurting their little boy....BUT GOD SAID trumps all.

It's not them, it's their belief, which at this point is indistinguishable from a mental illness.

Yes, add this to the file on why religion can be extremely dangerous and isn't just a benign, misguided belief system.

Under many circumstances, it can be a harmful, misguided belief system.

I'm all for keeping the State out of everyone's personal business, but a defenseless child, who is relying on his supposed caretakers, requires intervention.

But still comes from the same old huge pile of crap. Even after thousands of years, it still smears (and smells) as if it were fresh. Amirite?

They're not really following their religious beliefs if the story is accurate. JWs are advised to seek out the best available medical care, with the exception of blood transfusions, which they will refuse to the extent that is legally possible. But I'm not seeing anything in that story that indicated that there was an issue over blood transfusions. Nor does the Watchtower organization advise parents to take such drastic steps as removing a sick child from a hospital (or in this case, not returning him as expected).

There could be some kind of misunderstanding, or some other issue that led them to take that action. Or it could be that a strict fundamentalist organization is bound to attract people who do crazy shit like this.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
