Oh, and a belated welcome to everlove. See, we're not all ogres. I mean, how could you not trust a smile like mine?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

We gotta do it somewhere. The pool table's being re-covered after that nasty "sorry, it slipped" incident.

In grad school I was lucky enough to be in a program that allowed me to design my own curriculum (with guidance of mentors) and I focused on trying to understand consciousness from a scientific perspective. I explored many fields of study through this process including neuropsychology, psychoneuroimmunology, energy psychology, psychiatric and behavioral genetics (focusing in epigenetics), quantum physics, astrophysics, vibrational medicine, basically anything I could possibly explore that would give me a better understanding of consciousness that didn't involve "god" and "the soul". I finished grad school 3 years ago, Welcome!
I have never, ever, ever, heard of an accredited university that gave grad courses in the pseudo-sciences of "energy psychology" or "vibrational medicine."
Can you tell us where this college or University is?
I'm sorry, but your background spins me for a loop. If it is for real, you are certainly one UNIQUE individual.
Why are you so interested in the study of consciousness?

Why not be interested in the study of consciousness? It's considered the "hard problem". What better problem to try to try to pursue, especially at a time in history where our technology is so rapidly advancing?
I went to Goddard College in VT, it's a "progressive" school. The design was such that in addition to meeting all of the requirements for my state licensing board (needed to do all the "traditional" course material), I was also able to focus in particular areas of interest under the guidance of mentors that were familiar with those areas of study.

Holy Fuck! You aren't kidding!! That's soo twisted..
I went to more "conventional" universities, UT, LMU, USM. I didn't know places like Goddard even existed. I guess I learn something new everyday.
We're from different planets.
As for the consciousness question, The brain creates our consciousness, and the brain is composed of billions of individual cells. We can play with these cells with probes, drugs, and electrodes to create effects on our consciousness. There is no evidence nor any legitimate path of reason to think that our consciousness has any deviation from the obvious control of the brain cells. So what's the interest past that? This is leading into a discussion that would need to be moved out of the intro's though. If you want to talk about it more, feel free to start a new thread about it and I'll answer it.. Sorry, it's easy to get too far along in the intro's and the mods are very touchy with this zone.

A simple response with regard to neuropsych... correlation does not imply causation. Yes, another thread...
