I honestly don't know how the family could wind up costing that much. I mean, I've been in various housing programs over the years, I've had friends in housing programs, I've been in homeless shelters. It doesn't cost all that much. I mean, you get your rent paid, get a food budget and see a social worker once a week and you're good. How is that going to add up to $40,000 a month for one family? Something's wrong with the budget here; is the conversion rate from euros to dollars really that different?

Given the tenor of his complaint here and his posts elsewhere, I have no doubt he would either inflate the estimate himself, or get information from websites that would either directly inflate these estimate or use dubious acocunting to obtain inflated estimates to support their own agendas.

@tara: It's just a small community that got it's first immigrant while on a ridiculously tight budget in a country where the cost of immigration is being paid locally. If you would compare this community with other places in switzerland you'd find that this particular community is well of in comparison. Probably even after the family moved in.

That's irrelevant, if you wish to stay you have to pay your cost, the state isn't there to babysit you with taxes. It doesn't matter if you are cheap or expensive, would it make things different? It's still unethical and economically inefficient - I wouldn't be able to live being supported by other people unless I had no absolute choice.
