The founding documents are quite different, the acts of violence are very very different.
More to the point, it was a very bad interpretation of Christianity that allowed things like this to happen.
The bible was kept from the people precisely so they could be told anything was god's will and sent off to war/told to burn their daughters.
Not so much with Islam, quite the opposite. The more of this religions religious text a Muslim reads the more likely he is to be violent, intolerant, sexist etc.
For crying out loud, we are literally comparing a wondering pacifist hippy with a Genghis Khan here......... get over your aversion to noticing it.
I agree with you to a certain extent.
Yet the Bible sill has explicit passages that condone: killing witches, killing those that believe in a different god, having slaves, wiping out the population of cities.
So, even if the authorities kept the Bible from the masses, they were still using passages in the Bible to carrying out their wishes.
And I do agree that there is a clearer path from the Koran to violence than the Bible, but the path still exists in the Bible.
If I'm not mistaken the only thing in the bible referring to witches is but 1 line.
"Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live"
Not exactly extensive.
And on this the church went on a witch hunt to hide the horrible state of affairs in certain places.
But you were not a moment ago arguing for the vagueness of these doctrines, now resorting back to actual literal interpretations to draw a comparison..........
You can say what you like, I'm not sure why you need to try and contrast this with Christianity. It feels like you are offering justification. Back handed apologetics. But lets agree for the sake of agreeing..
My sense of comradery with my fellow humans only extents so far, they can take their dark ages and stick it where the sun don't shine. I don't want to live in the dark ages, I don't want to live next to anyone that is.
I don't even wanna be in the same continent as a demographic going through medieval dark ages and with the idea of martyrdom thrown in. Especially with modern tech. And I really mean that.
The very site of these burkas and niqabs is something I could do without, those stupid man dresses and 5 times a day praising their dear leader in between preaching that the rest of need to be subjugated or killed is something akin to treasonous. I wouldn't argue to much if someone tried to remove all practicing Muslims from western countries.
Sounds bad, but hey. Screw them, and their "moderates". Why should we become victims in our own countries, just so they can have a better way of life safe from persecution ? As I said, comradery over extended.
