That's because Santorum has no shame.
But that doesn't stop people from trying.

Another curiosity about Santorum and the rest, is their strange and continued reticence about esconsing other Biblical strictures, edicts, dogma, rules, commandments, laws and decrees into the nation's legal system. Surely God would be further pleased if Santorum could keep lepers out of churches too, but he doesn't even try.

Your thread title is a little dishonest. Santorium is giving the reason why his side is losing the culture war.
There is some truth to what he says. If you argue against gay rights your labeled a bigot, or homophobe, people boycott you or your business if you're in such a position, etc. Its virtually impossible to espouse a contrary view point without taking a lot of abuse. Consequently the discussion gets stifled and only one view point is heard.
Gives you new appreciation for what it must have been like for most Southerners after civil rights legislation abridged their right to discriminate. I celebrate your pain.

bigotry - n. intolerance toward those who hold different opinions from oneself.
The gay rights community is every bit as guilty of bigotry if not more so then the anti gay rights community. They just don't get verbally abused for it.
Which is why their being bigots is secondary to the fact that they are oppressors who are whining that they can no longer oppress. And, people like that are being marginalized because the weight of public opinion is now against them, and that's never likely going to reverse itself. This is just the fear that the formerly oppressed will treat their Christian oppressors the same way they were treated by them. I hope that doesn't happen, but it would take some effort to not appreciate the irony.
But, I don't get angry about what these people say anymore. They are irrelevant and so are their opinions. To react emotionally to them would be to give them the only taste of victory they can hope for. Christianity is being "silenced" only by its own obsolescence.

No, that is an incomplete definition.
big·ot
noun \ˈbi-gət\
: a person who strongly and unfairly dislikes other people, ideas, etc. : a bigoted person; especially : a person who hates or refuses to accept the members of a particular group (such as a racial or religious group)
Full Definition of BIGOT
: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance
People who oppose those who support an unfair, bigoted view are not therefore bigots.

Do christians not counter "bigot" with "sinner?"
Do christians not boycott or break boycotts?
Do christians not have the courage to "get in the face" of those demanding rights?
They certainly do these, and yet unfortunately for you, the real reason the conversation gets "stifled" with the accusation of bigotry is because the bigotry is obvious to even many "christains" and the fight to hate because the bible tells you so has left a sour taste in their mouths.
Calling gays, disgusting, sinners, hellbound , etc is a despicable tactic too....for the same reason....it stifles the discussion.
Glad you feel that way, but still does not change the source of where they justify their despicable views.
I was just today getting into it with Muslim women who like you try to equate my tactics to being on par with real bigots and real oppressors.
"misinterpret" is the common dodge liberal theists use to ignore the fact that "misinterpret" is an admission that the holy book is being used. If the words were not there to "misinterpret" then Iran would not have words at all to justify executing a rape victim.
My point to you about our right wing gay haters is the same point I make to Muslim liberals who cope out to "misinterpret" when it comes to the Koran.
FINE, don't argue with me, argue with them. I am not the one justifying hate or cruelty or oppression. They are. Get angry at the right people, not the people standing up to them.

You are a real bigot because you satisfy the definition for a bigot. You're just comfortable with your bigotry.

No, you said that "gaylover's" stifle the discussion by using the bigot labels, so that only one side gets heard. I responded that the "gay hater's" use similar labels. However, these "labels" or name callings are not what's "stifling" the argument so that only one side is heard, instead it is the "gay hater's" who have started to realize that the bible is wrong, and that it is not moral to discriminate against gay people.
