What does that have to do with anything now? If someone isn't worth $7.25 then they have some deep rooted issues.

Could be they are a convicted felon trying to re-integrate into society but cannot because their labor is priced out of the market.....why take a risk hiring a convicted felon for the same price you could hire a non felon? Could be the have a disability like Down Syndrome....why hire a person with Down Syndrome when you can hire a person without Down Syndrome for the same price? Not everyone's deep rooted issue is a matter of choice and even in situation where it is....we should still give them a foot hold on the economic ladder.

Minimum wage is morally wrong because it hurts people. That's why I oppose it...not because I wan't people to get paid pennies. The reason DP is a liar is he misrepresents people's position. He and others of his ilk....minimalist and Brian37....sell hate to further their agenda.

I have hired such people under such programs...their wages are subsidized by someone else. The employer gets re-reimbursed. Their job prospects are limited because some employers are unwilling/unable to deal with the red tape. It would be much more simple and efficient if the government guaranteed these people an income and then let them better themselves further by finding employment at a wage the value of their labor commands. They would have more access to more jobs and be better able to find a job they like...instead of having to work at a job that is bought for them by some program.

If you are concerned that a murderer or rapist will re-offend once released then they should not be released.

The "red tape" is about two pages of paperwork, completed by the employee, turned in by HR to the Feds whe tax records are handed over.

Having managed businesses for several nationwide companies, I can tell you firsthand that this "red tape" objection is silly. We were encouraged to hire folks off of the welfare/unemployment rolls by tax breaks, meaning that we got a tax break for the applicant taking three minutes to complete the form.

In this country minimum wage was an effective weapon to shut blacks out of the labor market. Before minimum wage laws...black unemployment was equal to or lower than white unemployment.

The truth is much more humiliating than that. During segregation black communities had self sustaining economies. Even with minimum wage. There were lots of black owned businesses. Back in Malcolm X's day black communities were developing a strong middle class. Blacks were indeed paid less than whites, but still well above minimum wage.
Sadly enough forced integration lead to straight discrimination. Black became a legal liability. Mixing the black and white work force wasn't the Jackie Robinson fantasy everybody had in mind.
You see the problem isn't minimum wage. It's that they are treated as subhuman. The insinuation that blacks are unworthy of minimum wage is pretty insulting.
