How do you feel
RE: How do you feel
It shows how fragile is the fabric of history, though. Just think - one commandment prohibiting anal fireballs and suddenly no more mutton vindaloos.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I rather think along the lines of the jealous god. If people were lighting farts there might have emerged some cult adoring the anus as an instrument of divine wrath.

God can't have that of course.

The Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, is the third largest in the world, preceded only by the Salvation Army and Red Cross. So you see Christians lead even above nations in disaster relief. God does care and moves through His people to help those in need.

How do you know what I have and have not done? That's not to say that you're wrong, just that you're making an awful big assumption. I could do a lot more, but I do charity work, donate to worthy causes, and spend time helping in my community. Churches are really good at motivating large groups of people to come together for causes; I do have to give you that. But you do not have a monopoly on charity and aid. We see Christians leading everything because an overwhelming majority of the wealthiest nations in the world are predominantly Christian. However, there are plenty of atheist and humanist groups that do exactly the same thing. The church does not own compassion. It's a human quality, not a Christian quality.

All of that said, the Church could do a lot more than it does too. Millions of dollars each year are wasted fighting things like gay marriage. Millions are wasted in ridiculously lavish structures to worship in. There are plenty of better causes that these dollars and this time could go to.

On the subject of disaster relief, God's people wouldn't have to spend so much time and money on disaster relief if he would cut us a break with the crappy weather and tectonic system that he designed for us.

Hey Kich, how you been, about escaping morons the Bible is a good place to go.Big Grin

GC

I don't know about that. The bible is full of people that do not seem that intelligent or friendly. God is quite the vindictive fellow. Abraham was willing to kill his own son. Jacob's brothers sold him into slavery. Samson was rather dim and had an extreme temper with poor justification for the slaughter of thousands. Saul repeatedly tried to kill David, who was dumb enough to keep coming back for more abuse. Elisha had a group of youths mauled by a bear for making fun of his baldness. David had a dude put into mortal danger so he could get jiggy with his wife ... All of the bible's great figures seem to have some pretty dark sides to them, and none of them seem particularly intelligent or particularly competent as leaders. And quite frankly, I would be constantly in fear of my life if I had to hang around with these guys for any length of time.

Yes, I can vouch for that.

I'm glad to hear you are doing those things, all of us could do more, in today's society we get caught up in so many things we seem to make ourselves the priority over others when time seems to be escaping our hands.

I see that as a good thing in many different ways, however we're speaking of helping others and that's the path we should stay on, to often topics get side tracked. No, we do not have a monopoly on charity, that's a good thing we can't meet all the needs of those in the world.

Quote:However, there are plenty of atheist and humanist groups that do exactly the same thing. The church does not own compassion. It's a human quality, not a Christian quality.

I believe that compassion is a God quality most humans use in their lives for the good of others, you're right Christians do not own compassion, I've seen compassion greater than mine from nonbelievers.

Quote:All of that said, the Church could do a lot more than it does too. Millions of dollars each year are wasted fighting things like gay marriage. Millions are wasted in ridiculously lavish structures to worship in. There are plenty of better causes that these dollars and this time could go to.

We do not see fighting gay marriage as a waste, it's our belief that such a thing is very wrong. I happen to agree that some churches spend more money than necessary on their buildings and some other things. I also see the scientific world spend money on things that could be better spent to help those in need instead of being an easy paycheck for some scientist. Then there are scientist like the one in California who's trying to fight cancer through a different approach who's spent a billion of his own money to help develop this approach.

Quote:On the subject of disaster relief, God's people wouldn't have to spend so much time and money on disaster relief if he would cut us a break with the crappy weather and tectonic system that he designed for us.

That system came into existence after sin was brought into the world by Adam and Eve. Man is responsible for what happens, God doesn't cause all this destruction, He is there however to help people through such disaster.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Why do we have to suffer for the sins of a couple that never existed?

Before Adam and Eve ever partook of the forbidden fruit, the tree was referred to as the tree of "knowledge of good and evil." Wouldn't this, therefore mean that evil already existed? Otherwise it would have been called the tree of knowledge of good and 'something that doesn't exist yet.'
