Vegetarianism, in my experience, is a master class in a persons individual kinks but maybe not all that informative with regards to food.
Well again its better than just continuing eating the same pattern of food that is making you fat, and when one does turn to vege, you do need to plan what you eat so as to get the best out of what you are eating, its my experience and that is all I am sharing here.

Yes but only a doctor is going to be able to tell you how to do it safely and slowly so your body adjusts. Simply jumping into ANY diet has a high failure rate and usually causes more health problems.
You also cannot simply replace meat protein with plant protein suddenly. Just like there are different types of hydrogen atoms there are also different types of protein.
Most doctors know very little about diet, its a very small part of their training.

Um no, a eye doctor of course not, but a general primary doctor is going to be able to point you to the right people. And your primary doctor is whom will know your history best. That is who you talk to first before you do anything.
My mom has had diet issues with certain medications and her primary can and will point her to an expert about other issues. My mom does not get everything done by one doctor.

Yes that's a good idea, if I would have stuck with my doctor I would be dead now. One group of people are the Seventh day Adventist, they have been teaching a vegetarian diet for many years, and as a group of people are one of the best healthy groups around.

The majority of cannibals find the flavor of vegetarians to be superior.

It isn't a matter of don't change at all, it is a matter of having a medical expert who can assess your diet history, asses your genetic history, and guide you through any changes that you chose. Changing a diet by yourself has less success or can cause harm without professional support. Finding the right dietary balance is what people need to do individually. A nutritionist could help you plan it, but a GP generally speaking cannot.

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke

It depends if you do it right. You can still eat poorly as a vegetarian. It's easy to load up on carbs and sugar. But if you eat a lot of read meat normally, it might help. You can also probably eat lean meat too. I'm veggie, just being pragmatic about your situation.
