More Questions For Christians
#11
RE: More Questions For Christians
I can answer number three without Google, but nothing else. I guess that means I'm interested in more than one set of "sacred" books.

If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

Not quite. Half marks, though.

No takers Boru?
I am out of trivia answers at the moment.
Actually, have always been bereft of them and ever will be.
Why do you ask?

I know the answer now, but since the questions are for Christians ...

Love your title: "I am who I am (does that make me God?)"

The Greek translation of Exodus 3:14: " Ἐγὼ εἰμι ὁ ὤν " (ego eimi ho on)
literally means "as for me, I continuously am the continuous being."
So no, your statement doesn't mean that you are God since you had a beginning.

BTW, the name of God, " Yahweh, " means the self-existent being which is part and parcel of the Hebrew in Exodus 3:14.

RE: More Questions For Christians
The Answers

1. What was the rainfall in the 4th largest city in Hunan Province on the day that Wolverhampton last won the FA cup?

4.2"

2. List the 6 most populous crepuscular mammal species.

Black rat, house mouse, black bear, white-tailed deer, domestic cat, ocelot.

3. What is the literary connection between the following cities? Athens, Venice, Verona, Windsor and Tyre.

They are the only cities to appear in the titles of Shakespeare's plays (near the mark, Jenny Smile ).

4. What is the most widely consumed toxic vegetable in the world?

Taro.

5. Within 1000, how many people die from black widow spider stings every year?

Zero.

An Explanation

Yes, they could have VERY easily have Googled the answers (I did). I find it telling that none did. The thread got 14 replies and 192 views, leading me to believe that more than a few Christians viewed the questions. Yet not a single one attempted to do a smattering of websearching to find out an answer. However, you ask them a question related to their faith and get back reams and reams of what are clearly (to me, at least) recently Googled information.

While this test was by no means scientific, it does lend at least a little support to my long-held contention that believers in general and Christians in particular are stunningly uninterested in knowledge that does not directly and immediately support their particular belief system. Reminds me of hobbits: They like their books filled with things they already know, set out fair and square with no contradictions.
