How many has god killed?
December 1, 2014 at 10:12 pm
I was browsing through some old emails and came across this:
The loving and merciful god
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.
-- Homer Simpson
God has no place within these walls, just as facts have no place within organized religion.
-- Superintendent Chalmers
Science is like a blabbermouth who ruins a movie by telling you how it ends. There are some things we don't want to know. Important things.
-- Ned Flanders
Once something's been approved by the government, it's no longer immoral.
-- The Rev Lovejoy

How many has it killed?
Technically, none, since fictional beings don't kill - their followers do.
According to the mythology, hundreds of millions.

Well, if you accept Christian theology, their god has killed every human who ever existed, because he handed down the death sentence to all for the applebite committed by two.

Now this is the most misunderstood notion in the whole of Christian Theology.
God created a world, a wild and free world, to be the breeding ground for things God values in human beings — things like courage, devotion, loyalty, self-sacrifice, kindness, generosity, hope, trust. By anybody’s reckoning these are a few of the noblest features of humanity. Would such qualities exist in a world without risk, danger, calamity — and death?
Remember, God suffers with us. "God loved the world so much that he gave his Son that whoever believes in him would have new life. God sent his Son to save the world, not to condemn it".
Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Depends on whether or not god exists, and how responsible that hypothetical god is for our actions.

Yahweh hates to be disobeyed, so he condemned everyone and everything to suffer and die. His original idea didn't work, then he wiped out the world to start over, and it still didn't work because the core problem (free will and independent thought) still existed, so he sent himself to sacrifice himself to himself to forgive us for having independent thought, except that still didn't work because most of the world doesn't believe in him and even those that do are split up into three warring factions.
For being an omnipotent being, he has a hard time keeping things under control.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, " God created a world, a wild and free world, to be the breeding ground for things God values in human beings". God does not dictate, He allows all freedom. The consequence of your actions is purely your own responsibility.

So, if there is no suffering in heaven does that mean that courage, devotion, loyalty, self sacrifice, kindness etc don't exist in paradise?
