Atheist Bashing on Facebook
#51
RE: Atheist Bashing on Facebook
It's worse when you have to face that regularly from your own family and friends. My brother has been posting anti-atheism stuff ever since I came out and it really sucks because I can't tear down his views. Also have a friend who insists on quoting the bible on every fucking status I ever make pertaining to any kind of religious thought.

I've pretty much given up. Can't take it anymore and have since stopped using Facebook at all.

Then, not surprisingly, I was blocked and my posts taken down. These creatards crack me up. They put up a page that insults and bashes atheists, then act all surprised and indignant when an atheist shows up and comments on the stupidity being put on display. This isn't the first FB page that has blocked me for being nothing more than an outspoken atheist. Anyone else out there have similar experiences?

I have always been loved and respected as an atheist, I am however, hated as a flippant troll.

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

RE: Atheist Bashing on Facebook
I got rid of my Facebook account in part because of the sheer ridiculous amount of inane bible posts, pictures of the White House with a caption reading "Put GOD Back in This House!", endless prayer requests, thanking god for husband, kids, car, job, parents, new pony, and on and on and on it goes. While it is perfectly fine for people to post their dreary Christian admonishments, memes, and so forth (I never said a cross word even if I did think it was a total crock), I couldn't post anything related to atheism without immediately drawing the ire of seemingly everybody. You have to keep in mind though that I live in Mississippi and all the people that were on my friend list also reside here. I just got sick of the double standard. It's okay for you to rub your belief system in my face, but I can't even make a post about my non-belief without inviting a disturbing level of vitriol? It really isn't so surprising though. Their behavior is typical of hypocritical Christians that espouse the you-must-tolerate-mine-but-the-hell-with-yours mindset so common today.

So I said fuck it and deleted my account.

That by itself is enough to make atheists angry and resentful. I get sick of hearing Christians ask why atheists are often so upset. Just open your eyes and trying stepping in someone else's shoes.

I don't usually respond to anti-atheist comments on FB, simply preferring to block them. But I've found myself responding to a few that love to insult atheists.

Whatever I respond with, I always sign it "your friendly neighbourhood atheist".

I do believe you have a G+ profile and it's just as bad.

Kevin had the right of it. If you're seeing massive amounts of content you don't want to, you need to unlike some pages, or unfriend some people. I really enjoy the group of about 300 or so friends I have - only about half of whom I really interact with. For the most part, no one does anything terribly dumb. If they do, I unfollow, or unfriend. Life's too short to both lose communication with good friends AND deal with stupid shit.

Learning how to use the internet properly saves massive amounts of sanity. That means staying away from comment sections, and not caring if your family is butt-hurt when you don't friend them.

After spending a lot of time in this forum, I joined the Catholic Answers forum, and within my first month I received two warnings for showing "contempt" for the catholic church in a couple posts, which I didn't mean to do at all. I was just presenting passionate opinions. I was used to the free-wheeling exchanges in this forum, and I had even toned it down, but I had to learn to use wording that clearly presented my view, but fit the decorum for that forum. In turn they've been more open to my posts. As for "atheist bashing", you need to have thick skin if you're going to wonder into strange territory. I, and christians in general, are bashed pretty much daily in this forum, and you can't take it personally. One thing about this forum is that it's not that easy to get kicked off, but I think it can swing too far either way.

That's very true. You do need to be pretty thick skinned when walking in the territory of the "enemy". Especially on FB, forums, and YouTube.

I'm a member of Christian forums and lots of people were very welcoming . . .until they discovered I was an atheist (and I hadn't even done any bashing).

RE: Atheist Bashing on Facebook
the steps delusional people use to make atheists feel bad and forcefully convert them.

1. they go after atheists emotionally

2. they say they are bad people and sinners (really not true they act like true christians then normal christians do)

3. they use arguments against why not believing in a god is bad

4. hell (really it was never really in the NT until people added it)

6. the phrase you just want to sin (nope)

7. saying that you need to repent or else

8. when they are angry what are going to say when you meet god bleh he is going to send you to hell (most likely not considering when we explain what religions did and how many there is god shouldn't get angry if one exists.)

9. atheists have no morals (in truth atheists morals are well superior)

10. atheists commit crime and sin (theists commit more crime and killing and atheists harsh fact atheist want peace)

11. we are peaceful people and you aren't (refer to 10)

while all in all theists claim they are good people but theism in jail is really high and the minority are atheists.
look at atheists countries compared to godly ones crime is nearly virtually extinct in atheists countries.
Atheism is a non-prophet organization join today.

I don't know about any of you, but I have run into this situation:

"God is everything. My children were born because of God. My grandma is still living because of God. God this. God that. God is love.God is life. Let God in your life, it will be beautiful. You need to accept Jesus in your life"

Me:" Well.....I don't believe in God..."

"HOW DARE YOU TRY TO FORCE YOUR BELIEFS ON ME!!! YOU ABUSIVE BULLY, YOU ARE TRYING TO CHANGE MY WHOLE LIFE, HOW COULD YOU DO SUCH A DIRTY ROTTEN EVIL THING!!! YOU ARE EVERYTHING WRONG WITH THIS WORLD!!
