Oh, I know. But even on a night like tonight, when her and I are at sixes and sevens, I'm a glad man, because I'm happily in love. We're both smart, and stubborn, but we've managed to keep things moving forward, and I'm goddamned glad for it.

I'm glad for you, Losty. I've been a very lucky man, myself -- I've known true love three times in my life, and this last, with Carla, is certainly the truest, even with the ups and downs. And you're absolutely right, there's no fairy-tale plotline.

But there's a simple beauty in working with one another's weaknesses and strengths -- it's like a good jazz number, you improvise your way through it and just so happen, on the way, to make magic.

I play nickle and dime dominoes, where you score when you're able to make the ends of the lines add up to a multiple of five. It's eassy to keep track of score, and the heart of the game lies in reading the hands of the other players. It's like poker in that sense, except that it's a longer game.
