Is it just me or does anyone else here kinda like this pope?
He's certain a fuck of a lot better than any of the pope's we've had in recent memory.

Nah. He's a scumbag like all the rest. Probably just trying to divert attention from some other scandal.

He's got a long way ahead of him in adressing all the Catholic fuckups and I'm not sure if he's got the power to go against the Vatican establishment, but I can at least give him credit for trying. None of his predecessors - and I remember them as far back as Paul VI - even tried it. I respect him as a person, I don't respect his organisation.
He seems to be one of the better ones, but he is a guy that ran for pope when the papacy is known more for molesting children than being paragons of virtue. I guess it's easier to make changes when you're in charge, but that's still a lot of wading through crap.

At the very least, he's a step up from the previous popes. He's clearly trying to bring it up to standards that look modern if you kind of squint. It's more than can be said for Benedict.

It's also a step up from the Evangelicals with their end times porn and creatard fixation. The Catholic church is a danger to individuals being exposed to their priests, but the Evangelicals are a danger to civilization, as there's a real chance of one of them becoming president of America and actively working towards Armageddon. I kinda view the current Pope the way any honest person views Obama. He's made mistakes and he hasn't cleaned up everything and he hasn't done everything he said he'd do, but on the other hand he's the figurehead of a giant, sputtering tank that's either going to have to crash and burn to stop, or require some constant clever tinkering to wear it down.
Obama doesn't have that long. Francis just needs to live long enough to kick some ass. |
