If you continually forget things that are important to a person who is important in your life, your own importance to them will shrivel like a ping-pong ball in a cyclotron.
Perhaps your missus is 'sucking the life out of you' because she's beginning to sense that she doesn't matter all that much in your life.

You better start paying her attention if you want to remain married because it sounds like she could be acting out to get a response from you. I know you said you're convinced that she's not cheating on you, but it would be foolish, IMO, of you to casually dismiss her going for a night out with a guy friend. I mean...do you know this guy at all? It could certainly be a friend. I'm married myself and I have friends that are girls. But then again, this guy might want to be more than a friend.
Anyway, that's my advice. It sounds like your marriage could become another statistic if you don't change something.

If you think your marriage is in serious trouble and you want to save it, you might want to consider couples counseling. In the meantime, show her you care. She probably feels neglected or blown off, which doesn't excuse her behavior, but maybe it will help you understand why she's behaving that way.
You went off somewhere with your buddies. Go off somewhere with her. You forgot to wish her a happy birthday, nail the anniversary. You forgot to book tickets for a movie, take her to a chick flick. In the meantime, make an effort to be better about remembering things that matter to her.
You know her better than any of us, so adjust the above for her personality (don't surprise her if she doesn't like surprises, for instance).

What I had to do long ago when Wifee clamed up on me:
Get her to talk.

Admit to being a jerk.

Bite the bullet and ask what you can do to make it up to your wife.

He shouldn't have to. What he's described breaks almost every classic DON'T EVER DO THIS 101 rule in managing a relationship with your wife (short of actually cheating on her, that is).
Frankly, he sounds like he got married before he even knew how to manage a relationship with a girlfriend.
