How powerful is god?

RE: How powerful is god?
Parents found torturing their children in the basement are not considered loving by society. Maybe they should be?

RE: How powerful is god?
I would say god is not very powerful at all. It took him 7 days to create the universe, why not just 1 day or 1 second? God isn't able to stop evil, or if he is he is malevolent by not stopping all the evil. He isn't able to write a book without any contradictions. He had to do a great flood to wipe out all humans instead of just making them vanish off the face of the earth. He had to send his son to die as a sacrifice for some original sin which he himself is responsible for in the first place. He couldn't stop the snake from temping adam and eve in the garden. So many of his designs are flawed such as wisdom teeth, tape worms, and diseases. etc...

Haha yes, even if he is powerful, he is very stupid and evil.

God is just a concept, that the religious give power to, and also the atheist give power to, because if their is no god, then why wast you time trying to prove there is no god, its just plain silly.

I don't think most atheists are trying to prove there isn't a God. I readily admit there could be one, whatever the fuck a God is, but that it is of no importance and no reason to think there is one. Proving a negative is indeed a generally fruitless and impossible endeavour.

Sure Smile I feel no need to go around proving absurd gods don't exist any more than I need to give lectures about how fairies aren't real.

I mean, I can prove certain God claims are false without even having to try. But most are simply unfalsifiable and therefor useless.

But that's where you are wrong, the belief in a god is a big thing in many peoples life, in many cases it gives them something to live for, and also in many cases their much happier than those who don't believe in something that is bigger than themselves. There is bad and good in the belief in god, no matter how much you don't like the concept of god.

I think I didn't explain myself well. I meant as a claim of knowledge or of truth, any unfalsifiable claim (or inconsistent claim) is worthless to anyone but yourself. Of course the placebo effect is astonishing, and people can gain power from all sorts of beliefs. What they don't realize, or perhaps even care, is that the strength is coming from themselves. But if they need the strength and that's the only way they can tap into it, then good for them. As long as they don't try and force me to share their beliefs, or want it taught in science class Wink

It's not that I don't like the idea of God, I just see it plainly for what it is. What I don't like is the harm it causes.

But the harm it can cause is really nothing to do with the idea of god, the harm is caused by dick head people, taking the scriptures all wrong, the scriptures are only words that are loaded with wisdom for those who have wisdom to see the wisdom.
