The Invisible Hand of the Market Has You By The Balls

Quote:Here’s the thing: in order for fees to work, there needs be something worth paying to avoid. That necessitates, at some level, a strategy that can be described as “calculated misery.” Basic service, without fees, must be sufficiently degraded in order to make people want to pay to escape it. And that’s where the suffering begins.

The invisible had is not what some people think it is. Only a complete moron would argue for a total free market. Labour laws are a limitation, by nature anti-market and anti-competition between workers (preventing a race to the bottom) but are a tremendous necessity - It's also funny that economics has never proven that a lack of stability and rules both in the workplace and general quality of life work against profit and revenue, as well as GDP increases.

You need to speak to some libertarian assholes.

Quote:Libertarians believe the government should not force business owners to pay their employees a set wage and repeal the Nevada Minimum wage law.

http://www.politicususa.com/2013/07/13/c...-koch.html

Quote:Koch doubtless joins the Walton family company, WalMart, that recently threatened to scuttle plans to build three poverty-wage stores in Washington D.C. because the city council were considering a bill to require large companies to pay employees a living wage. As it is now, each WalMart store costs taxpayers a minimum of $1 million in public welfare and healthcare costs because they pay poverty-level minimum wage and maintain a strict policy against overtime pay, allowing workers to take bathroom breaks, or receive basic medical accommodations. According to Koch, who along with the Walton family holds more wealth than the majority of Americans, the minimum wage is forcing companies to fire employees and rails at the notion of raising it to $9 an hour that would barely help 15 million poverty-level American workers afford to eat, find shelter, or afford basic healthcare.

These libertarians are scum.

That looks like an economic and social suicide apologist to me.

I think capitalism is the only economic system that works, but I also know that capitalism doesn't work without proper regulations because no matter how cliché it can be to say this, everyone knows employers would largely exploit workers and pay them miserable wages if it wasn't for labour laws or unions discussing workplace and wage rules to avoid catastrophic inhumane results.

I completely agree about the need for regulation. But "regulation" goes against what these robber barons want.

Apparently they like to claim labour laws are meant to oppress them and diminish their productivity - As if labour laws were meant to privilege economic results over basic human and social dignity (*sigh) in the first place.

We can back up facts with studies and observations like the ones you linked, still there are people who believe in the myth of the self-made man who is being oppressed because raising 30€ of minimum wage per month (like my government just did for 2015) is an attempt against the employers' human rights...

We're not talking about a free market anymore, we're talking about a rigged market to the disadvatage of the customer. That's what you get when you don't regulate. The big ones buying the small ones in order to eliminate competition.
