The Origins of the Universe

RE: The Origins of the Universe
A seven year old necropost. Is that some sort of record?

Quote : "the universe was like a smoke-filled chamber from which light could not escape"

This is smoke:

This is plasma:

If you can't tell the difference then smoking is going to be a lot more hazardous to your health than we had imagined.

The universe started when Kieth Richards had some bad refried beans after a week long heroin bender. He had some record breaking gas.

Does the universe need an origin or can we include the thing(s) it came from as also part of the universe?

Look closer to the heaven surrounding the earth. We call it the 'sky'. Notice the clouds? What are they?

I guess in that verse, smoke was meant to be the precursor for the clouds in the sky.

Anyway, it helps to have a look at the various translations of the verse here. Not seeing anything miraculous here. It's part of a story, not a scientific finding.

This verse and many other agree with modern science, there is no point in bickering about this fact. A skeptic can of course bring other interpretations/translations and claim there is no miracle, but this is clearly disingenuous.

This verse and many others *disagree* with modern science. There is no point in bickering about this fact. A believer can, of course, bring other interpretations/translations and claim there is a miracle, but this is clearly disingenuous.

At work.

I'm sick of a these post hock Quran verses being trotted out all the time

When are they going to present some new, ground breaking Quran hypotheses for people to test?

Just imagine. Maybe the reason these fairy tales get it wrong isn't because they don't come from gods - but because gods don't know how they managed to do what they did.

Or so the faithful would have us believe...apparently.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
