Say, Ian, it looks like you can type.
After I decided to give up ditch-digging, I tried my hand a data entry. I applied to a few temp agencies, they tested my typing, and they gave me assignments, one of which turned into a job that lasted years where I earned a promotion to Accounts Payable Clerk was later useful as work experience for my current job. Now I'm a manager (partly due to going back to school and getting my bachelor's), which isn't worth bragging about, but general laborer to department manager isn't chopped liver.
Data Entry isn't a long-term career, it's starting to become obsolete, but you can use it to get your foot in the door at a company worth sticking with for awhile.

Yeah, moms always want what they think it is good for us. The issue is, they must realise the offsprimg will think differently, not always breaking up, but being someone else. I still have a mom and I fought alot with her. I still love her, but sometimes, speaking out to her is the best you can do. I hope you both get along in the long run.

Assuming that everything is true, I'd love to be a fly on the wall at OP's house. A Catholic/Taoist mother, an agnostic father, a Muslim brother, a pagan sister, and a Jewish brother...I mean, wow.

The ultimate goal of parenthood is to raise self sufficient adults. After 18, I don't want the girls to live here unless they are in high school, college, or grad school. AND I hope they don't want to either. Grown-ups should want to lead grown-up lives.
I do want visits and phone calls. Husband and I will be happy to help with down payment loans, tuition, and saving for grandbabies' tuition.
Working while in school, picking their own schools, and dealing with school classes and administration on their own are the stepping stones to self sufficiency.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.
