RE: A strange but curious question: if you had a time machine...

If going back to see a religion formed is my only time travel choice, I would go back to watch Jesus preach. The reason being that I think he was just one more rabbi with an apocalyptic message, and I'd like to see if I'm right. I'd also love to see actually wrote the New Testament and when. I'd particularly want to go if I could document what I saw in some provable way.

Scientology. Just so I could give Hubbard a hefty slap.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Trying to pin jesus on a single mad preacher back then is a bit like finding a needle in an arse stack.

If I had to choose one religion, I'd go with Buddhism.
But yeah . . . dinosaurs!

I'd suggest looking at some of the 50+ page threads about this topic.

That is akin to stating that Harry Potter must have existed for the same reason.

Yeah, that's not a good argument, working backwards from effects. Bullshit can generate just the same effects.
