No, it's asking the blind to acknowledge that they are blind and stop pretending they can see.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide mankind that cannot be achieved as well or better through secular means.

Quote:Only the very ignorant are perfectly satisfied that they know. To the common man the great problems are easy. He has no trouble in accounting for the universe. He can tell you the origin and destiny of man and the why and wherefore of things.
-- Robert Green Ingersoll, "Liberty In Literature" (1890)

Quote:But honest men do not pretend to know; they are candid and sincere; they love the truth; they admit their ignorance, and they say, "We do not know."
-- Robert Green Ingersoll, "Superstition

Quote:The agnostic does not simply say, "l do not know." He goes another step, and he says, with great emphasis, that you do not know. He insists that you are trading on the ignorance of others, and on the fear of others. He is not satisfied with saying that you do not know, -- he demonstrates that you do not know, and he drives you from the field of fact -- he drives you from the realm of reason -- he drives you from the light, into the darkness of conjecture -- into the world of dreams and shadows, and he compels you to say, at last, that your faith has no foundation in fact.
-- Robert Green Ingersoll, "Reply To Dr. Lyman Abbott"
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

In other words you got nothing.

The god "explanation" for the universe is laughably stupid as has been pointed out ad nauseum to you and others.

Quote: I think we just interpret the evidence differently. Some people see it and say "it can't be God, so I''ll just wait until science figures it out". Most people get it, but there always has and probably always will be, those who close their eyes to it or just don't get it. To answer your question Dyresand, I can't prove it to you scientifically. You just have to open up and see it.

So sticking to the "got nothing" argument then.

Can you see why we find this complete lack of anything we could possibly see as evidence unconvincing?

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

Don't be an idiot. You're reasoning backwards. Oh...this has been explained to you? Then you must not have tried. What's that? You said you did try? Then you must have tried wrong. Oh yeah? You tried by "challenging your beliefs"? If you were able to utter the sentence above and think it worthy of being read and taken seriously when contrasted with the OP, then I suspect that you have the same chances of understanding the universe as you do of understanding the paths to your own conclusions. I'm glad you were born here and not in a predominantly Islamic society because at least here the most common suicide that's conducted is not by way of bombing, it's intellectual suicide similar to the kind you've demonstrated in this very thread. Good job, Lek, you've misused the tools of critical inquiry to reinforce your own presupposed nonsense. Years from now, when you tell people that you "really tried to challenge your faith but God was undeniable", know that there are people alive who know that your attempts were not only flawed, but the intentions behind them stunk of disingenuous self-drception. Good job though! Thanks for uh..."trying".

Prove God exists? Easy! I've actually seen the figure of Jesus Christ on a piece of toast and again in some dog's ass. Case closed.

No one could ever prove it. When I was a Christian, I'd cringe at other Christians who'd try to get me to see that God is provable. The Bible is proof, they'd say. It's not objective proof. After a lot of reflecting since then, and spending some time as an atheist, I find myself in tuned with Deism. It is a very different way of looking at a god, and it affords a person the chance to just be him/herself, unlike theism. Although Dawkins considers Deists to be watered down Theists. lol But, we won't go there. Big Grin

I can't prove my idea of god to anyone, and I don't bother trying.

It is extremely difficult to prove theism and even more difficult to prove Christian theism; indeed, all the arguments for Christianity are highly controversial requiring more highly controversial, speculative premises to be true.  For an example of controversial premises: If God exists, then God would communicate with humans, or If God exists, then Jesus was resurrected.

RE: Prove god exists.
The first question becomes what the hell are you even trying to prove. "God" can mean virtually anything, it appears to have no hard definition whatsoever. At least, not one that isn't violated constantly by people talking about the subject. I tried getting people to define it on here and it was a tumbleweed fest mostly. I have no idea what the entry level requirement is to become a "god" and how you can tell one from a super powered alien with thousands of hit points and incredible seemingly "magic" powers.

I never understand the non sequitur between "something outside our reality that created all this" and "all powerful superbeing". In my mind, the most likely scenario if such a creator exists is that our reality is some sort of representation of a process going on in another reality. Of course, what the hell "reality" or "real" means are also extremely difficult questions. So I imagine some cock ring is running a simulation, and he's just a regular inhabitant of whatever reality he is in. Or we represent some actual process going on, like a side effect of it; this is all one big emergent property somehow.

What I certainly don't think about is our friend Kevin working at Simulations4u having omniscience and omnipotence just because he can run a damn simulation.

Obviously I'm speculating and imagining here as much as anyone else, but I would hope somewhat more realistically so Wink

If you can do you realize how much money you can make by doing that.

The bible exists, the bible says god exists, therefore god exists.

There you go, empirical evidence god exists, now where do I pick up my Nobel prize?
